Framework of trade for NJ to get Melo. Favors, Murphy and 4 firsts. Sources in Anthony's camp say he will agree to sign an extension with NJ. http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_a...re_two_first_round_picks_in_three_team_trade/
No deal appears done. Only a possible proposal, that as the article says "would put NJ in the driver's seat for Anthony". Ehh guess I'll believe it when I actually see it done. http://ken-berger.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/11838893/26450495
If the trade is to go down, it would be 2 of their firsts and 2 from the the 3 way deal that is about to happen I think.
Yeah, it would have to be since you cannot trade consecutive 1st round picks unless you have multiple 1st round picks in one of the years.
And people thought my post was crazy earlier when I said the Terrance Williams trade was obviously regarding Carmelo Anthony more than anything. Morey and the Rockets have vested interest in Anthony going to NJ rather than NY and there is no way Morey makes this deal unless he is confident that Melo will be going to NJ if they aquire this asset. Its amazing that a GM is basically trading a draft pick for potentially a better draft pick.
I have always said Melo was going to NY at season's end but if the Nets get their hands on him, more like Lala, and give him, and her, a taste of the high life with JayZ, Beyonce and the Russian Mafia...Knicks could be screwed.
But the 2012 pick we are dealing to the Nets is lotto protected through 2017. Sure I guess we could end up with a pick just outside the lotto and the Knicks pick could be in the 20s, but I don't think anybody would cry about that.
If the Knicks aquired Melo then its a guarentee that they are a good playoff team, if he goes to New Jersey then it would be a devastating blow to the Knicks organization and fans. Morey must believe this as well and believe they will not be able to keep winning in the second half of the season. Its better to give up one top 15 protected pick in 2012 then give up the ability to swap picks with NY next summer and the pick in 2012 to drop from 15 to 27. Plus they are getting a 2nd round pick from Sacremento which should be a pretty high 2nd round pick in a deep draft because of the potential lockout in 2011. So basically Morey believes if the Knicks dont get Melo then they will suck again when its all said and done in the East.
melo is good, but he ain't that good. he hasn't played like a superstar this year, so definitely doesn't deserve basically 5 first rounders if you count favors.
unless they're lotto picks 1st rounders aren't really all great. Favors+2 NJ Nets+2 lottery protected picks seems fair value for Favors. Of course since I'm not a Melo fan I'd probably just keep Favors instead, but I can certainly see why NJ would do it. Lopez+Melo+Harris? Shoudl be good enough to make the playoffs IMHO. Then next season maye they can trade Harris for CP3...
Carmelo must really want to be in New York (Brooklyn), because I can't imagine the Nets being good anytime soon.
