You act like were the only team looking to add Butler and they have to make a deal with us. No, Philly will find out if he’s willing to sign or walk. They’ll offer him big money and if he doesn’t take it then they’ll trade him for something valuable in return. Do you really think the Rockets are the only teams looking to add a piece like Butler? There are plenty of teams in the NBA that have a lot more to offer than a scrub like Shumpert. You said it yourself, they gave up everything to get him. Do you really think they’re going to let him walk without getting something in return?Again, Morey gave up our first round pick so we don’t have any other assets to offer, unless of course we willing to give up Eric Gordon. Meanwhile, other teams can offer pics and high quality players in return.

Well Deck... certainly didnt seem to distract MDA... he stuck with his same stubborn rotation - refusing to see if he could get a spark from someone like Faried or maximizing Nene or any bench player (all were +)... kept giving everybody (incl GG) the green light to chuck endless 3s instead of running actual plays for high % buckets...

Yep it was classic "we're just gonna play our game MDA"... smh...

He wasn’t Moreys choice for coach? Says who? This is squarely on him and the over reliance on analytics that has made its way down to Dantoni.

Morey wanted to bring back JVG or get a younger coach (Silas i think), Les wanted Mike for years.

Houston general manager Daryl Morey, who himself has just gotten a contract extension that will keep him with the Rockets through the 2023-24 season, has made it clear that he wants to do the same for D’Antoni.

Morey made it clear that he prefers to negotiate an extension during the offseason to allow everyone to focus on the task at hand. He also stated that he wants to keep D’Antoni in Houston as long as he wants to be the coach of the Rockets. Barring another franchise making a play for D’Antoni or D’Antoni simply desiring to test the open market, it’s likely that D’Antoni and Houston will announce an extension during the coming offseason

Granted this was written during the season, but if he extends then yes, it is on Morey.

Just saying, he didn't choose Mike at the time.

Mike never tried out his 7 seconds or nothing Offense......at least that sounds like more fun, even if that is not conducive to winning a ship.

Essentially Les would be regretting this.....ISO Ball is not what he wanted.....

But you have to have the right players to do that, with Harden you just can't, if you think Morey is the reason why Harden walks instead of running like Nash eh, i don't know what to say tbh.

    You right, let's say nothing.

Les wanted a lot of things.....making profit was paramount......so he did with the sale.

Harden isn't the sole reason, but Nash was a swift fox, much faster than Harden.....mostly pushing the ball/decision making.

Harden is walking the ball up very slowly half the time. He is used to it. The same with CP3.

Nash was always 'ON THE MOVE'.

I think Les did not understand the whole concept of the Suns and that is not 100% transferable.

So hiring Mike wasn't going to automatically put people in the seats.

Coomon knowledge that Morey wanted a young new coach, but Les insisted on MDA because he always wanted an exciting, high-scoring style of play. Both Les and Morey even said it was Les's call when they hired him.

James Butler (nor Jimmy Butler) is not walking through that door!

Yep. There was a lot of smoke around JVG at the time.

Truth is, D’Antoni has done well with this team. Everyone is emotional right now, but he’s been great for Harden.

Hoping Butler opts in (if he has that option I haven’t looked) and a trade is to be made. This team needs something and fast, because the window is closing rapidly.

I may be reading into it too much, but Morey seemed genuinely down at the MDA presser. I don’t think he liked it at the time at all.

Right. He certainly wasn't exuberant about it.

That said, he grew to like the choice because MDA really unlocked Harden and we started winning all the time.

I like D'Antoni, and I don't know of any obvious replacements available for him. I do wonder if the team needs a coach that is a better fit for them psychologically. D'Antoni seems to have the attitude that a bunch of grown-ass veterans shouldn't need help to get their heads in the game - he expects them to be ready to go on their own - but watching the Rockets repeatedly look disinterested and sluggish in crucial games makes me wonder if they might need a coach who will kick them in the ass every once in a while.

Great post. I totally agree. MDA is great at certain things and inadequate at others, especially playoff rotations.

However, the things he's NOT good at would become less of an issue if he had a better roster. This year's playoff roster had gaping holes, including the consistency of some guys, and that just won't work if you're trying to bring down a f&#king dynasty.
