I had a lot invested in the Carmelo Anthony trade as I really truly believed no Gm could screw up that situation especially morey.... well....obviously me and many of us were very very wrong. So what's next? Is there another significant move that can be made? And no I don't mean all the "we are better off with Anderson and a okc with melo " garbage. Is there a trade to be made or any other move of note to hope for? Maybe a Wade buy out or trade? Let's move on from the epic melo thread! Discuss...
I will say that I don't think we can win the wade buyout but maybe we can pull off a trade with the non guaranteeds and a fringe player or two ?
Or maybe we can act satisfied with an off season where we added one of the best points of all time, and several solid players that can defend very, very well. I feel great about this team as is.
What's next? We embrace the PJ Tucker/Moute PF-era to end games while Anderson lends his moral support from the bench collecting 19M/per.
Where does this narrative that CP3 is gone after this season come from? He could've outright signed with us in free-agency, but chose to come via trade so Houston would be able to offer him his 5 year max. Why go through the hassle of weakening your current team by bleeding them of assets so they can offer you your five year deal when in all actuality you are just going to leave after one season? Idk, maybe I'm missing something. But, barring a disaster of a season, I don't see him leaving.
He's a risk for sure but if he doesn't commit to NOP he could be on the trading block again this trading deadline. Unfortunately, though, the best players we'd trade to them are players they have already had lol. But, a 3 team deal where a team gets a 24 year old Center, EGO, anjd sends NOP good talent back? I definitely can see that. Can Cousins/Paul/Harden work? The whole thing with getting Cousins is he'd be available because he's failed once again, either that or he simply tells them he's not resigning. But getting Cousins would be an example of Morey striking out on Melo and getting a better player instead. Cousins could move the needle big time if he could just control his emotions and be a good teammate.
See how the season plays out and make mid season moves. Team is plenty good enough to win a lot of games as is. Things will shake loose across the league to make improvements.
What's next? Well. . . Media Day is Monday Training Camp starts Tuesday First preseason game against those Thunder is 10 days away First game @ Golden State is 24 days away. Go Rockets!
Lol. OP the worst kind of Rockets fan. Just enjoy the fact that we went from Bev/Dekker/Harrell to CP3/PJ/Luc.
This Rockets team improved immensely this offseason and people are freaking out because we didn't get a player (Melo) who is only slightly better than Ryno for what his role would be? Damn.
You weren't wrong. Morey screwed up nothing here. He brought in Ryno at a then-good contract, big enough to attract one of the best free agent floor-spacing PFs in the league. Not his fault that the cap projections turned out to be too optimistic, because every GM in the league thought the same, as did every analyst. He gave up valuable assets to land CP3, assets which would have helped us acquire Melo. But hey, they helped us acquire CP3, who's a much more valuable asset to this team. You always need to make the big move which is possible NOW.
