I'm not familiar with his works and hadn't heard of Discworld until today. What I do find very sad and troubling is that he died of Alzheimer's at 66 which isn't that old.

Terrible news. Sir Terry contracted a rare form of Alzheimer's that's early onset, and also fatal rather quickly (apparently). He was only 66. What a blow for fans of science fiction.

Well, if you've heard of Neil Gaiman... Gaiman actually mentions in the article that he once had the privilege of writing a book with Pratchett. That book was Good Omens, and it's excellent. It captures the feel of Hitchhiker's Guide, but in my estimation is better-written and better-paced.

And on the Discworld front, I actually just recently finished the PS1 game of the same name... based of course on Pratchett's Discworld, and voiced by Eric Idle from Monty Python. Also highly awesome.

I may move onto to 2nd Discworld game sooner than I was planning, in tribute.

    Dang. Still can't believe it.

I think Terry outside of somehow beating Alzheimers, this is the way Pratchett would have wanted to go out, in close to full command of his faculties.

I really like the Tweets that his family used to announce his death. If you read his books, these are pretty much perfect.

A master of Satire, I recommend the Discworld Series and Good Omens to anyone that enjoys a good laugh and entertaining characters. Once the Discworld series hits it stride, it is easy to spend a weekend binge reading through several books.

Ouch, been offline for a few days and missed this.

Nothing to say really, he is my favorite author bar none and while I knew this was going to happen eventually, this really sucks.

    Rest in Peace PTerry :(:(
