it's more amazing than it is practical. He won't be used enough as both, even in the unlikely event that he pans out at the MLB level at both hitting and pitching. Just empty the farm for Stanton, add one arm to the pen, and call it an offseason. Let's have some fun.
I would agree with that as Astros won't have an extra $295 MM after budgeting for keeping core members they tho k they can keep.
Even if we somehow got Otani (I think he's NYY bound) I seriously doubt we'd move Kuechel. Even assuming he's gone after 2018. I seriously doubt we'd move him just after winning a WS. This is our window. We're not trading Kuechel for a couple prospects who could do something in 2019 or 2020. We'll let it ride with Kuechel and get a draft pick out of him at worst.
There is a 25 man roster so someone either goes to minors if they have options or is traded if Ohtani picks the Dark Horse Astros. That person won't be a guy like Keuchel.
I disagree. If you can give me a kendrys Morales of the last five years type of hitter and a Collin McHugh type of pitcher in the same guy, you have an mvp candidate. Let him hit when he pitches and dh two other times then take two days off.
That's what I don't get about people knocking on Ohtani. Japanese league is essentially AAAA. It's better than AAA. If any of our pitching or hitting prospects put up anything close to his numbers at AAA everyone would be drooling and calling them the next big thing. Ohtani has done this at a higher level and for a longer period of time while being extremely young, yet people are questioning whether this is all real. I mean you can't get as sure fire a "prospect" as this. If teams had to pay real money for him the bidding would start at $100mil and may reach $200mil.
Anaheim worries me. They just acquired some extra intl bonus pool money. It would be great fun to see him regularly, but the potential for him to be a pain in the Astros' ass is high.
Baseball is not a one man show. It takes a whole team. I can understand if he doesn't want to just hop on world series bandwagon but the Yankees are already good and you don't think hed go there? I'm pretty sure he wants to compete and not watch at home during the playoffs cause his team was 3 games behind in a wild card chase.
Huge news. Was hoping he wouldn’t end up with them. They’re already a dangerous enough team. Can’t wait to see how this whole thing plays out.
I see trend West coast team and not necessary contender as he then gets to play more. It is good move for him. He plays to make name and get much more playing time. I don't see any team not on West coast and it will be NL so he will also field as DH may be beneath him.
