From the current crop of candidates this election cycle, only Trump and Rand Paul appeared willing to take a realistic view at US/Russian relations. All others seemed to be buying into the made up narrative that we're still locked in a Cold War struggle with the evil mother Russia.

 

Putin's Russia isn't the old U.S.S.R., but it isn't a kumbaya ally either. Russia is a rival led by a leader who would like to see some balance to the power the U.S. wields internationally. Putin's stance toward the world's only superpower has hardened over time especially since the Iraq Invasion during Bush II.

It isn't like Putin has kept these thoughts a secret. Anyway, you are correct that Putin wants to see a pragmatic approach to diplomacy that respects what he considers Russian interests, even if that means watching as he annexes land or invades a nation. The current narrative, I think, is born out of what as been increased aggression by Russia over the years. Something the GOP used to hammer democrats with up until this election cycle.

Honestly, your head is in the sand if you do not see the United States and Russia as enemies. There have been spies identified in both countries.

SMH, don't try to make it seem like Trump agrees with Rand Paul on anything. Rand Paul has a realistic view of US/Russian relations, Trump is Putin's lapdog.....that's not the same thing.

 

Sorry, you are ok with a foreign gov't hacking into a major political party to try to influence an election. I forget that since it was the DNC it's ok in your book. Go Russia!

Sounds bad, but it is probably just business as usual. Trump's manager is a partner in an international pr firm. Most foreign governments employ US public relations firms, who generally take money from whomever, whether Dems or Republicans, odious foreign governments or actors etc. to make Americans think highly of their clients or influence our legislation to benefit them.

Many are the same pr firms that lobby our own Congress for corporate interests which are often against the 99%.

Sadly, I suspect that Bill Clinton or the Clinton Foundation probably use similar firms whose clientele would not pass the smell test. I wouldn't surprise me if some of the pr firms supporting Hillary and the Clinton Foundation made money off clients on the other side in Ukraine-- the one that overthrew the guys Trumps manager worked for.

Hey, Trump is personally crazy and unfit to be president, so if this type of info causes some of the low info or even neo-connish types in the GOP to vote for Hillary (the neo-con light types in the Dem Party are over Hillary), I am not that against it except for a bit of fondness for the truth..

It was a serous mistake to reneg on the deal with Russia that we would not expand NATO if they allowed German Reunification.

It is stupid to claim the Russkies are going to invade Western Europe just because they annexed Crimea after 96% of the Russian speakers there voted to rejoin Russia after the anti-Russian coup on the Ukraine. So a conventional buildlup is a waste of money.

Even our neo-cons who love to start needless wars throughout the Middle East and throughout the world are not stupid enough to try to win a nuclear war. However, the military industrial complex sure loves the new cold war which encourages big expenditure on nuclear as well as conventional weapons
