yea i'm watching it, it seems like he's making a lot of excuses for the play of late. did anybody else see the 7th inning "take me out to the ballgame singer" tell the crowd to let all the fans in st.louis and houston to hear them sing? It really symbolizes the "us against the world" mentality...sad.
WOOO! I love seeing the Cubs choke it away so much. Exactly what the Astros did last year and now we're getting payback, such a beautiful thing.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1893196 More reason to hate the Cubs: "On paper, we're much better than the Astros, than the Giants," Todd Walker said. "It's just incredibly unbelievable with the team we have to lose six out of seven. I've never seen anything like it. It's just a freak deal. This whole year has been a freak deal." Waaaaaaaah! Goat.
I can't say this enough... Listening to Vin Scully is like listening to the best symphony... he doesn't work with a color man, and he just calls a game so succintly, and beautifully, with nary a stutter nor an awkward pause. And, he's been doing this for over 50 years... absolutely amazing.
Is he the guy doing the Giants-Dodgers game on MLB? Cause this guy is great. BTW, congrats to Ichiro for tying the hits record. edit: for breaking the record.
OK check this scenario out ... Astros win out with Oswalt and Clemens taking care of business Giants sweep the Dodgers so we all end 92-70. From what I've pasted below it looks like the Giants and Dodgers play a one game playoff and we automatically get the Wild Card since the losing team will now have a worse record than us. Am I reading this wrong, or is this really the case? I just get the feeling that Giants are not going to lose to the Dodgers ... http://www.all-baseball.com/ref/tie.html
Yea... if you're watching it on EI or MLB.TV, you are lucky enough to listen to one of the all time greats. This guy was around since the Brooklyn days... amazing.
no, if the Giants and Dodgers end up tied, they have a 1 game playoff to decide the West. This doesn't count against the loser, who then would play the Astros for the WC. If it's the Giants, the Astros go to SF for the game. If it's the Dodgers, MLB will do a coin flip (they didn't do one for this situation when they did the others) Check this out for full explanation
Yes... this is the right outcome if that circumstance were to happen. If they went by the old rule (the loss knocks the other team out of the wild card race), that would be pretty awful... The more important thing, is if its a 3 way tie... the Astros will have an "extra" day of rest to allow the first game to be played, thus helping them adjust the pitching lineup even better. (although, if its Clemens on Sunday, they won't have many options on Tuesday).
IN the link you provided I still found this "a. Tie among two teams for Division Championship with one team having the better record of the second place teams in the other two divisions. The League President shall conduct a coin flip to determine the site of a playoff game between the two teams tied for the Division Championship, the game to be played the day after the conclusion of the championship series. The winner of the game shall be declared Division Champion and the team with the better record of the second place teams in the other two divisions shall be declared the Wild Card team. " To me it just sounds like the 2 teams tied for the division get a playoff game while the other team waltz's in. Am I looking at the wrong rule? .. I am looking at Rule 4-a
honestly tho, is the rule printed in the rulebook, because I seriously think the commisioner just makes this stuff up as he goes along. I'm not kidding either. Is it actually printed somewhere. I almost think the league doesn't print it so as to keep their options open is case something weird is about to happen that they will need to remedy.
