Ok, after all the tree huggers have said their peace, let me give mine. Regardless of what the government or anyone else says, there is always a time when you have to defend yourself. I'm 41 and I've never been known as someone who sought to fight or retaliate. I have a 20,9,6,and 2yr and I teach my kids to defend themselves, but don't seek trouble. During my basketball days in from ymca to highschool to college, there was always times when I or my teammates had to stand up. Playing at LaMarque, we always played the so called "tough" schools. When you walk into some of those gyms, they count on intimidation to win. It was hard foul for hard foul. If they gave a hard foul, you best believe they would get one a little later.

As I moved on to swt, my college coach was somewhat similar. Against pepperdine, this guy kept sliding under me on my jumpers. He was boxing me out before I got down. I told the ref a couple of times, but he was slick with it. Told coach, he said on follow through, bring your elbow down on his collerbone.. I did it, got a foul call,but the player didn't return for the rest of the 2nd half. My coach didn't say a word. My coach also coached in the nba. What am I trying to say?

There is a active league wide perception that the rockets are soft. This perception lasted all through the yao ming era until they got artest?Why? Because accross the league, the rockets best players were considered soft. Yao Ming,whether by culture or nature was the kind of player who took it. }uys would push him down, step over him, and he wouldn't do anything. When your best players are deemed soft, your team is percieved as soft. Hakeem was mello in his later yrs, but his rep was, don't stir him up. Thorpe and maxwell also helped uphold this thought. Even non fighter guys like duncan took to task hard fouls. These rocket teams with kevin martin,chase buddinger,luis scola will just take it and smile about it.

I completely agree. This ain't football where overt acts of aggression can be met in kind. But you're not winning without asserting yourself as someone who won't be b****ed around. Honestly this clubhouse needs more of an edge. It's always a fine line, and no one wins when the clubhouse gets out of hand, but as far as crazies in the NBA goes, our Rockets should be looking to adopt a couple.
