- Is fact checking purely the domain of the "liberal media"? - If it's true that Obamacare is a train wreck, why not report the facts? It shouldn't be too hard. Just report the facts and let them speak for themselves. It can't be that hard. Three couples appear to serve as real life examples of the evils of the ACA: - One businessman who complains that he can't grow his construction business and must keep his workers to part-time hours. But Obamacare has zero effect on his business which has four employees. - A woman who buys insurance on the open market and and complains about the price tag, but hasn't shopped on the exchange where she would discover that she could have the same or better coverage for %60 less. Thanks, Obama. - A man who complains that his insurance will be replaced with a plan that costs %50-70 more than his current one. Hasn't shopped on the exchange and refuses to- although doing so would reveal he could have a plan for %63 less cost than his current one. This is so shameless. It's just awful. The lynchpin of Ted Cruz's crusade was that the will of the people is against Obamacare. But do they even know what it is? Have they even tried?
Yeah, I don't understand what we do about this as a society: supposed news organizations routinely advance inflammatory, constructed, and largely misleading propaganda, 24 hours a day. I cannot think of a historical analogue to this in America, especially the emotional and all-consuming temporal nature of it. This is not to say it can't happen anywhere on the political spectrum, but FOX is the *best* at this by a long shot and they effect the most people by a long shot. Since the hook is emotional, counter-evidence and facts have no effect on most of the dedicated viewers. (We've all tried this, even on the BBS or with family members.)
Maybe not 24 hours a day, but this kind of behavior is just par for the course. Check out some of the classic superman comics or anything else from that era. In war time, America's enemies are dehumanized and portrayed in a universally stereotypical manner. Propoganda at its finest.
Hannity, though, that guy is on top of it. Do you hold him to the same standard? Let's say using the Kaiser Foundation calculator is a mistake. (And why is it a mistake? Care to explain?) If so, you're holding this journalist to some standard of investigative standard. So how do you feel about Hannity doing an entire segment on the harms of the ACA when none of his subjects can demonstrate any harm? A businessman with 4 employees who claims he can't expand his business and must hold his workers to part time, even though that is irrelevant to any business under 50 employees. If there is harm, could he be troubled to say exactly what? Would a journalist care to find that out? The author asked but got no reply- Hannity is just busy confirming biases. The other two don't even know the cost of insurance they could acquire on the marketplace! How is this supposed to serve as an example? Again, if conservative media wants to find examples of increased cost, why not bring them forward instead of people who don't even know? It just weakens the entire case against ACA. If you care at all about the messaging on this, you should hold Hannity and Fox to a higher standard.

This isn't the first time these types of tails turned out to be bogus. You are right it hurts the credibility of the right's attempt to bash the benefits of the ACA. It's also a case of crappy journalism by FOX. But they don't care about being right or wrong as long as they can hopefully score a point.
Exactly. There is media bias everywhere, but the way in which Fox frames its so-called reporting is by far the most propaganda-laced. Political bedlam at its finest. I feel bad for the viewers that cannot determine the difference between facts and "commentary." The "Three Stooges" on this BBS are perfect examples of how media brainwashing works.
Fox should be stripped of their broadcast license. At the very least, they should be required to constantly run a consumer alert warning their viewers that they are watching corporate advertising disguised as news. To bad that Obama is a moderate Republican, or he could push for that.
