There is a <i>seeding</i> procedure for the State Volleyball Tournament. I read about the Football Playoffs <a HREF="http://www.uil.utexas.edu/ath/manuals/foot/fb.html#playoff">here</a> and it makes no mention of a <i>seeding</i> procedure. After looking at Playoff Brackets in different Classifications, it does appear that the semifinal brackets have the Region I winner verus Region II winner and the Region III versus the Region IV winner. <hr color=red> Kam, I couldn't imagine them splitting Cy-Springs out of the UIL district with the rest of the Cy-Fair schools. The Fort Bend district has had temendous growth and is reaching the upper end of viable UIL district size. More growth might lead to an interesting situation for that school district and the UIL. There is another realignment coming up shortly and it should be announced in early February. It will go into effect for the 2004 - 2005 school year and there have been rumors about the creation of a 6A Classification. Just rumors for now.
I don't see what 6A would really accomplish in football(Not too sure about other sports...would probably make individual sports more fair). Only a few of the bigger schools(4000 - 5000+) could be considered true powerhouses(Judson, Katy), and two of the smallest 5A schools in the state, Dallas Carter and Southlake Carroll, are among the most successful. While it shouldn't be true, alignment, in Texas at least, all boils down to football and how the alignment will affect football, so I don't see how this extra classification would really accomplish anything(And I would go insane if teams like Plano started to think they were superior to the 5A teams, much like current 5A teams look down on 1-4A teams) yaopao, I disagree. If you look at blue collar recruits(Rod Wright, Vince Young, etc...) I am pretty sure that Houston has dominated of late. Dallas players are often products of systems(Not that there's anything wrong with that...it's just that their stats are inflated). See SLC's Chase Wasson as an example. He graduated with a few state records and, I believe, an offensive player of the year award. While he is definitely a good QB, he wasn't even mentioned in conversations about top college prospects.
Nope. 3,146. http://www.katyisd.org/schools/school_info/school.cfm?school=KHS&level=3 Southlake Carroll has 2,156. http://www.southlakecarroll.edu/chs.htm and http://www.southlakecarroll.edu/cshs.htm
Eh, I was thinking Woodlands and typed Katy. Katy is a pretty large school, but I don't think it is in the Plano/Woodlands/Judson range.
Not sure about Woodlands or Judson, but I know it's not in the same range as Plano. It's going to get even worse the next few years with new high schools opening up in Katy. We'll soon see how good Coach Johnston and staff (emphasis on staff) really are.
Rocketman95 , The numbers listed <a HREF="http://www.uil.utexas.edu/ath/align/2003/fbbb/5a.html">here</a> are probably two years old in regards to student enrollment, but they seem to be fairly close and would probably do for this discussion of schools such as Plano, Plano East etc. Earlier in this thread, you listed Katy at 3146 and the UIL site has them at 3006. The UIL has SLC at 1986 and you found a current enrollment for SLC of 2156.
New ADM's went in in October. Realignment will be announced for the first of February. The numbers in Mango's link are 2 years old but they are what the current alignment is based on. Working in HS athletics, realignment year is always fun to try to predict where we will end up and what teams will be in our district. We usually end up in a favorable group because the guy in charge of the UIL was our basketball coach right before he took his current job.
Alief named their new high school after a homosexual...not that there's anything wrong with it, just letting yall know. He retired a year before I took US History
Here is a web site and the writer's ideas for a 6A Classification: <a HREF="http://www.fridaynighthistory.com/mockalign.html">Class 6A To Be Studied By UIL Ad Hoc Committee</a>
True, but I was just trying to save you and others some time. Plus or minus 100 students at Plano, Woodlands, Elsik etc would still be tremendous number of students.
