A new song named "Headlong Flight" was released from their upcoming "Clockwork Angels" album today and is available for streaming from the "Rolling Stone" website at: http://www1.rollingstone.com/hearitnow/player/rush.html It's going to take me quite a few listens to comprehend it all. It seems pretty heavy and rocking. If you didn't like them before, then you won't like them now so... . lol Some unconfirmed but 99% firm tour dates yet to be announced (probably announced tomorrow): Sept 7: Manchester, NH - Verizon Wireless Arena Sept 9: Washington, DC - Jiffy Lube Live Sept 11: Pittsburgh, PA - CONSOL Energy Center Sept 13: Indianapolis, IN - Klipsch Music Center Sept 15: Chicago, IL - United Center Sept 18: Detroit, MI - Palace of Auburn Hills Sept 20: Columbus, OH - Nationwide Arena Sept 22: St. Louis, MO - Scottrade Center Sept 24: Minneapolis, MN - Target Center Sept 26: Winnipeg, MB - MTS Center Sept 28: Saskatoon, SK - Credit Union Center Sept 30: Edmonton, AB - Rexall Place Oct 10: Bridgeport, CT - Webster Bank Arena Oct 12: Philadelphia, PA - Wells Fargo Center Oct 14: Toronto, ON - Air Canada Center Oct 18: Montreal, QC - Bell Centre Oct 20: Newark, NJ - Prudential Center Oct 22: Brooklyn, NY - Barclays Center Oct 24: Boston, MA - TD Garden Oct 26: Buffalo, NY - First Niagra Center Oct 28: Cleveland, OH - Quicken Loans Arena Oct 30: Charlotte, NC - Time Warner Cable Arena Nov 1: Atlanta, GA - Verizon Wireless Ampitheater Nov 3: Tampa, FL - 1-800-ASK-GARY Ampitheater Nov 13: Seattle, WA - Key Arena Nov 15: San Jose, CA - HP Pavillion Nov 17: Anaheim, CA - Honda Center Nov 18: Los Angeles, CA - Gibson Ampitheater Nov 23: Las Vegas, NV - MGM Grand Nov 25: Phoeniz, AZ - US Airways Center Nov 28: Dallas, TX - American Airlines Center Nov 30: San Antonio, TX - AT&T Center Dec 2: Houston, TX - Toyota Center Rush is back for another round b****es!!!!!!!!!!!
This YouTube version below is supposed to be less compressed and sound better. Notice the clock is stopped at 21:12. Rumor is they may play this album live in its entirety this tour...but another possibility is "Signals" in its entirety due to 30th anniversary. Expect the new album to be covered extensively. There is also a novel (fiction) that is the story to go with this concept album that Neil Peart and another writer collaborated on. It's supposed to be released in September. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ZN3fySNvz78" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Lyrics (unofficial) to "Headlong Flight" All the journeys of this great adventure It didn't always feel that way I wouldn't trade them because I made them The best I could, and that's enough to say Some days were dark I wish that I could live it all again Some nights were bright I wish that I could live it all again All the highlights of that headlong flight Holding on with all my might To what I felt back then I wish that I could live it all again I stoke the fire on the big steel wheels Steer the airship right across the stars I learned to fight, I learned to love, I learned to feel Oh I wish that I could live it all again All the treasures, the gold & glory It didn't always feel that way I don't regret it - I'll never forget it I wouldn't trade tomorrow for today Some days were dark I wish that I could live it all again Some nights were bright I wish that I could live it all again I stoke the fire on the big steel wheels Steer the airship right across the stars I learned to fight, I learned to love, I learned to feel How I wish that I could live it all again The days were dark And the nights were bright I would never trade tomorrow for today All the highlights of that headlong flight Holding on with all my might Some days were dark I wish that I could live it all again Some nights were bright I wish that I could live it all again I stoke the fire on the big steel wheels Steer the airship right across the stars I learned to fight, I learned to love, I learned to feel I wish that I could live it all again I stoke the fire on the big steel wheels Steer the airship right across the stars I learned to fight, I learned to love, I learned to steal I wish that I could... Oh I wish that I could live it all again
Part of the main riff is very close to the main riff of Bastille Day to my ears. Saw them do side 1 of 2112 in 97 and would much rather see all of Signals. And would it kill them to play Jacob's Ladder again? That's the only song left on my list to see after getting the Camera Eye last tour. It's been too long since Snakes and Arrows, 07, and will be great to see them at an inside in the Winter and not in hell, ERRR, the Woodlands during a heat-wave in August!
Looks like ticket pre-sales start up next week on 04/24. I will probably end up getting the VIP packages so end up in first fifteen rows guaranteed.
RnR HOF has no credibility ever. All you have to do is look at the list of people who are already in, and see how many of them aren't even close to being considered "Rock n Roll". The only thing lately that I like Axl for doing was boycotting the GnR induction. They deserve to be in it, but that doesnt take away from the travesty that is their induction process. ontopic for surfie. I will be there for sure, but Im disappointed it isnt at the Woodlands, I love love love the atmosphere on the hill, and in December the heat isnt really a problem.....and the far cheaper prices of GA. Thankfully, Maiden in August will be a Woodlands show.
Ahhhhh, a return to all that is holy ...........love the new song and can't wait to see 2112 played live again. Also, we end the tour..... I've seen our favorite band countless times over the years, but this show is going to be kind of special. Speaking of getting back to your roots, origins ...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEgXe-gQxX4
yep. houston ends the tour but only the first leg. knowing the boys like i do (as if), they will be touring on a second leg. that is a good show to be at cause they know it is the last one in the year. it wouldn't surprise me if they hit up more north american dates (like austin...for example) before they cruise on over to the UK and Europe for the second leg just like last tour. i suppose there is a chance they would not have more north american dates and just go overseas. Only 33 venues for US and Canada seems kind of tiny for Rush. i'm guessing they take a nice long christmas break and hit the US/Canada again before UK/Europe...probably starting in March.
Am I a bad Rush fan for not really digging any of their new stuff? I feel like I'm being disloyal when I head to the beer line when they start playing it. Can't wait for December though. I've already told my wife that's what I want for Christmas. I haven't been to a Rush concert since 2005.
bad...disloyal...no. you are just one of the many rush fans who only like certain rush from a particular era or whatever. and, i have found that rarely do rush fans fully agree on what they like and what they don't like. it's a mixed bag. i'm sure rush wouldn't like a fan coming up to them saying "your new stuff sucks; play permanent waves" or whatever. lol. but, rush understands how varied their fan base preferences are...which is why they will never steer away from playing certain songs live they know certain fans want to hear (e.g. classic stuff). as for myself, it's the musicianship that draws me in. the mental aspect of examining lyrics and their meaning...not so much. the lyrics have always been over the top in my book and too nerdish. as long as the lyrics fit the sound...i'm usually good. i'm mainly drawn to the guitar first, drums second, and bass last. and, put together, just the overall sound and how it all comes together with the various time signatures in play. some fans do like most or all rush...and i tend to be one of those fans. but, i still have a mental list of what my faves and unfaves are...as i imagine any rush fan does. certain rush just won't be heard coming out of my sound system...especially some of the more obscure, dated stuff and stuff from the 90s when keyboards were in full swing.
Nope, their best material was pre 85. I doubt many Rush fans would disagree. They were never the same after Terry Brown stopped producing their albums.
I've felt the same way for years...2112, A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, etc. That's the core. Give me 15 years + back and tune out the new stuff has been my modus operandi for quite awhile..... That said, the new song has a great sound ...a fusion of old school +
debating who likes what rush is an exercise in futility. the only conclusion i have drawn from such debates all these years of hearing and reading it is i really don't care who likes what rush. i only care what i like. there are so many rush fans out there from all eras. their tastes are all over the map...which is why rush has to be broad about their setlist choices and pay attention to song placement in the setlist when touring. the only certainty is you are going to get several new songs for the record they are touring on regardless...as it should be...and you will always get common classic songs in the setlist that the average joe fans show up to hear.
Check out the article below in honor of 4/20. High Times magazine interviewed Alex Lifeson. Some interesting conversation in there. Lol. http://cygnus-x1.net/links/rush/hightimes-06.2012.php
Best Rush song i've heard in years -- it just rocks start to finish. Ima give this new track a good listen.
