Morey has already gone after Nunnally. I agree Ennis is better than him though. The Rockets ended up with a hobbling Wright and a completely overspent Joe Johnson at the deadline. If DM can acquire better players, than I'm all for it. By the way Gerald Green was not on Morey's radar. "GM" Harden convinced him to sign GG to a contract, when injuries were hitting us. DM admitted to this. Morey was talking about his obsession to defeat GS at that time, but he wasn't doing much. Please name some vets that might be available this year. I'm not really interested in older players like Tyson Chandler, or Jared Dudley. Jameer might be okay, but he is getting older too.
I think people on this board really underestimate the Morey and his team's ability to "read the market" of potential buyouts. They talk to teams. They project how teams are going to look and their horizon. You don't know the intel they have. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt on their intel and the opportunity cost of what could be available versus what is out there now.
The end result wasn't as successful as we would have hoped, but that doesn't mean the "intel" was wrong.
It wasn't successful at all. "Intel" should have factored in the health status on the players. I like Wright, but the GM should get correct medical information, don't you think? If the "intel" wasn't wrong, then why did they only have Joe Johnson as an option? I was hoping he would something left in the tank, but he was totally out of gas.
Here we are, a game away from a championship, blaming Joe Johnson who was on a Vet Min contract... (And he actually did give us 4-5 decent minutes there, WAY better minutes than Luc or Ryno gave us)
(With a minimum contract we went after Nunnally, and multiple other players) Gerald Green was certainly on Daryl Morey's radar, has been for decades. Don't mistake his modestness for reality.
We spent our MLE on Tucker. We only had the minimum to offer. So I say Morey read the market perfectly last season.
I didn't know that. I thought his contract exceeded that. No doubt, it was a great move. However, it was done before the season started. With only part of it remaining, it's unlikely to be that useful, unless another Josh Smith becomes available near the February deadline.
