If a team has cap space they can just absorb salary without having to send salary back. They do have to include something like a draft pick to make it work, but teams can work around that by heavily protecting the pick. The Nets will probably send us a 2nd round pick, protected #31 to 59, or something. Essentially, we get nothing but cap relief to use on the buyout market.

 

I wouldn't be surprised if the protection is such that we never actually get a pick.

But if so... nice.
