I know it's RealGM, but it looks like some dude from RealGM interviewed DM, so I thought I would post it.

If it's not acceptable Clutch, please lock it up.

The Rockets concluded their Summer League schedule on Wednesday and aside from sure-things Jordan Hill, Chase Budinger and Patrick Patterson, Daryl Morey told RealGM the team is looking for a third point guard behind Aaron Brooks and Kyle Lowry. On Wednesday, Houston matched the offer sheet Lowry signed with Cleveland.

“I think we’ve got an opportunity for a third point guard. Ishmael Smith, Trevon Hughes, Blake Ahearn and Jermaine Taylor are really auditioning for that role,” he said. “In training camp we’ll probably have one of those guys and some other free agents we’ll bring in as we look for a third point guard.”

Uh oh, when he puts Jermaine in there, that spells trouble......is his contract guaranteed this year?

If they really want a 3rd PG, JT is not even on the list, sounds like they may not keep him.

I think JT is more of a 2 than 1. He might just be an emergency PG.

I really like Ishmael. Dude can penetrate, play D, and see the court to find the open guy.

Dude, forget him. I think he will be on the Mavs roster as their 3rd PG.

It means that he is fighting for the same roster spot as the 3rd PG, like the 14th or 15th player.

And if they go with a 3rd PG, then he might be gone.

That is how it reads to me....I could be way off though.

JT is not a point guard. Ishmael Smith has shown good point guard skills so far, however I have concerns about his half-court game. In today's game, he had moments when he looked uncomfortable in a half-court set, such as struggling to make entry passes to Hill and Patterson.

They were probably seeing if JT could play the PG spot in a pinch. If they were really auditioning him for the 3rd PG role, he'd have played most of his summer league at the PG spot and not as the SG.

Rudy could play backup PG. He's done it in Portland.

I think they are only mentioning Taylor because if he shows enough to be an emergency 3rd PG, they won't bother signing anyone new.

Same as last year, they'll make do without an extra PG.

I doubt he HAS to show that he can play PG to make the team. He has shown enough in his natural position to do that.

JT has only been here 1 year, they are not giving up on him yet. Remember, this is 3rd string PG. JT could fill in that role, he will not have to do it often. He has better handles than Luther Head ever did.

However, I would not mind adding a 3rd pg, I have said that for a while. We do not have a lot of 2s that are versatile enough to move over to the 1 for short stints (Martin, Bud). JT is the only one capable of that, that is why he is being mentioned.

I hope they don't sign Taylor...he sucks!! Don't like his game...it's selfish and ball hogging and just not smart. I don't care if you're athletics and have talents...if you don't play smart, you SUCK!! Just look at Stromile Swift.

I rather sign someone like Ismael Smith before Taylor.

People on this board forget that Luther Head at one point in his Houston Rocket career was a decent player and did more than he gets credit for...Furthermore I hope JT makes the team but with the way Ishmail Smith played in Vegas its going to give JT a fight for the 15th spot...To be optimistic lets hope JT can develop a 3point jumper before the season!...Also whats the situation going to be on players like David Andersen and Alexander Johnson shouldnt they go before JT??

JT doesn't have to fight for a spot, he's already signed to a 3 year deal.

    Aaron Brooks / Kyle Lowry
    Kevin Martin / Jermaine Taylor
Trevor Ariza / Shane Battir / Chase Budinger
Luis Scola / Patrick Patterson / Jordan Hill / Jared Jeffries
Yao Ming / Chuck Hayes / David Andersen

We have one more spot left, so it's a clear choice that Ishmael should make the 3rd pt guard spot.

I think JT is signed to a 3 year deal with year 3 being a team option, similar to Dorsey.

He has a contract below $1 million, letting him go would not hurt the team all that much if they decided a 3rd PG was more important to the overall roster.

Right now, we have a ton of wings, and only 2 points....JT is probably close to the outside looking in....IMO.
