LOL. Some of these haters on this thread. It's like you have a track star that was once top 5 in the world. You bring in a coach that has methods to get him within .001 sec Usain Bolt. 2nd in the world. Can't QUITE beat him, no one has been able to beat him. Just doesn't quite have the talent to do it. But still posting amazing times. What's the solution? Take his coach out and shoot him.
Rockets could trade for Lebron - there's your superstar, coach and GM. Think of all the money Tillman would save! Rockets get a HOF player, coach and GM all in one!
MDA thinks it is all about good luck or not. If we lucky enough to make those shots, MDA will be championship coach now. Lmao
i dont see the reason for this. he hasn't shown he can make adjustments (Had several shots at the warriors), it seems to me that the Rockets are not wanting to give him the extension and he is putting pressure. well see what happens, but they should just let him play out the last year of his contract.. its not like he will have any other teams hammering for him.
Nah, I was just referring to MDA's quote..... 'Heck, I can coach another qualitavely good 3 years.' I can understand why they are going with MDA but it is still wrong IMO. The league is going with younger coaches and younger stars, draft picks........no surprise the Rockets are behind. They are trying to ride out the last years of aging stars to make that happen, it is too much of an unknown. The youth movement began when a young GM assistant called Morey was appointed and there was never a follow up young guy. IIRC it was the year 2007. His first plan after Yao retired was the 3 star plan - it took too many years and too many victims to come close. I fully expected a change of plans with a new owner but turns out he wants to go the same way as Les has.
Morey and them better have a plan. Letting jeff go and extending MDA. Our defense will suffer if nothing is done. Maybe they can talk Van Gundy to come back and assist MDA. Maybe we should have hired him from the start.
yup- but wishful thinking.. well see.. I dont think the rockets want to extend him, so if he really doesnt want to coach without an extension, then anything can happen.
You dun have to fire him, give him one year as head coach and make him stay an assistant. He stays and you have retained his Offense genius. It's not that hard. If he doesn't comply, then let him go. I dun think the defensive coordinator has much of a say anyways. Bzdelik was sorta an exception as MDA and him are friends and about the same age. No guarantee with a new defensive assistant.
This is just a now move. Obviously there is nothing better out there to replace dan Toni. This just secures a coach until a replacement becomes available. Nothing to see here.....
I am actually very impressed by Fertita. I have seen many new owners in the NBA who after some dissapointment go around firing and purging their whole front offices and coaching staff. Especially if they had inherited them from the previous ownership. Our owner has shown remarkable self control restraint and wisdom for someone who has so little experience. He is staying in his lane and listening to Morey. Trully rare and a clear sign that he can be one of the best owners in the future. Provided he is willing to also open his wallet.
Who's going with younger coaches and younger stars? Rebuilding teams. The Celtics hired Brad Stevens when they were starting over. Doc bailed on that situation go coach a bunch of vets in LA. And yes, we are riding out the last years of aging stars. Which we should. Harden is one of the top 5 players in the NBA and he's still in his prime. CP3 is on the decline, but he's still a very good player. EG is at the tail end of his prime. So is Tucker. Capela is only 25. Rivers(if we can resign him) is only 26. House(again, if we can resign him) is about to turn 26. You stick with this lineup until there is a noticeable dropoff. Then you consider blowing it up and starting over. The 53-29 record was due mostly to the horrendous start and that can be chalked up to the failed Melo experiment, Bzdelik's temporary retirement on the eve of the season, and Morey's replacements for Ariza and Luc being complete wastes of roster spots.
So he & Harden are perfect for each other. Regular season swag champs @kjayp "This swagtastic season can still be cherished without a championship."
IMO last season's start shall tell you that the team is about to decline. Well, you could always magically pull a rabbit out of the top hat in terms of trades or what not. Harden had to put up 35-40 ppg in 3 months to keep us within HC advantage......... it was due to him, some of Rivers, Faried, House, and others. No wonder if he, PJ and others are gassed in the postseason. This keeps on happening. Even if you dun employ a younger coach (I never said you cannot hire a 50 year old), you always go for younger talent who cost you less on rookie or sophomore contracts. It is risky, and the Mavs did it with an older Dirk, but riding it out, is a risk. Mavs won a title but retooling cost them many years. Dirk was one of the most cap friendly super stars.
So the thread saying MDA will be fired is false? Yet another Chris Broussard worshipper bites the dust via his sources. What a shame.
