The very fact that he's commenting about on ongoing investigation has already damaged any reputation he might have had as being non-partisan. The fact that he would publicly make statements against the IG report tarnishes his investigation and points to it being purely political.

Or perhaps his investigation has already discovered facts that directly contradict the IG's conclusions and he felt compelled to state that while the IG report was fresh.

So he felt the need to make a political statement? That would undermine his supposed non-partisanship. Professional prosecutors generally just investigate and find the facts, they don't worry about another report while they are still investigating. Who cares if they find facts that different than the IG report. Why does the public need to know that, now? Why not release the facts and report once it is done. If people misrepresent your finding as Barr did previously with the Meuller report, then you can make a statement to clarify.

It's not his job nor relevant to his investigation to insert himself into what people think of the IG report. The only reason for doing that would be political.

You have a pretty loose definition of "political statement" if that's how you define it.

    Says who?

Seems pretty damn relevant if there is overlap between the 2 investigations. The difference being that the IG's report is by definition limited in scope vs. Dunham's which has a larger scope and more investigative tools available.

Setting the facts straight isn't a reason?

That is a 'weird' move. Durham's reputation is that he's a straight shooter, non-partisan. I'll bet he was pressured to make a statement.

Perhaps. I don't know why he made the statement. It damages his non-partisan standing if not that of the investigation.

He isn't done with his investigation. Once completed, let his investigation put whatever facts they've discovered into the report.

Federal prosecutors don't comment during the middle of an investigation. But for some reason he did. He doesn't have to set facts straight about the IG report. All he has to do is conclude his investigation and then publish it. If he has new facts they will come out.

The fact that he's commenting during an ongoing investigation makes it difficult to believe he's following the facts and not already reaching conclusions.

The IG had facts as well and reached a conclusion. It isn't Durham's job to comment on it. It casts doubt on the integrity of his own investigation.

The legit move would be for him to shut up until he's done with his investigations.

I like my CIA to run operations against foreign foes, my FBI to be blind to political parties and my DOJ to pursue justice in all matters.

If he did, it would be right near the election and it would be labelled as ginning up some old case to try and influence the election (like how Dems labelled Comey's reopening of the email server case). at least this way hes letting everyone know early what's coming regardless of the status of the election.

Seriously though Barr has no more credibility left so why should anyone listen to anything “views” he has on the IG report? This is the problem with what he did in misstating the Mueller Report, and doing things like booking personal events at Trumps hotel.

Durham on the other hand has to be well aware that by doing what he did today, he has now officially stepped into the politics of all of this. Has he not learned from Comey, Rosenstein, Whitaker, and now Barr?? Stepping into the politics by offering unsolicited opinions on criminal investigations is a no no... just stop. Learn from Mueller who is the only guy who walked away in the Trump era with a shred of credibility.

Just ask yourself... is anyone out there asking for Ken Starr to do a credible non partisan investigation? Would any Democratic appointed AG ever hire Barr as a special counsel?? Only time will tell but if Durhams Report turns out to be the least bit partisan and political than his reputation will turn into garbage. He has opened the door wide open now by trying to undercut the IG with a highly political PR statement on a politically motivated investigation.
