RIP I dont know this guy I just saw RIP and Karl M and I thought it was malone was going to say June got off to a crappy end but at least july gets off to a good start (yes i dislike him that much because he was just as much an ass off the court as he was on the court)
I could've sworn Malden died a while back. Dang. He was probably best known for "Streets of San Francisco" and those American Express commercials. His real name : Mladen George Sekulovich And he was born in... *gasp*... Gary, Indiana.
his work spanned 7 decades but he will probably best be known for A Streetcar Named Desire and On The Waterfront RIP
Man, 97 years. Plus his mom lived to 104 and his dad made it to 96. Strong genes in that family. It's a shame that he has somehow managed to outlive his fame. He was a pretty darn good actor, way back when. I personally loved his work in "The Cincinnati Kid", but that may be because it's one of my favorite movies of all time. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_qwGPvKid_c&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_qwGPvKid_c&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
I saw him most often over the years in his role of Omar Bradley opposite George C. Scott in Patton. Probably because that film is on TV about every month. <img src="http://www.dvdbeaver.com/FILM/DVDReviews23/a%20patton%20george%20c.%20scott%20franklin%20schaffner/old%20patton%20george%20c.%20scott%20PATTON-2(1).jpg" height=90% width= 90% > From my childhood, he is the American Express guy (sort of like Orson Wells was first known to me as the Earnest and Jullio Gallo guy): <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HhqLCFKp5Io&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HhqLCFKp5Io&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> With his face and voice, he made a great "hard working world weary regular guy" character and he kind of was typecast to that role. RIP.
I also know him best from Patton, but when I told my (26 year old) wife and she responded with "Who?", I told her that he played Omar Bradley in Patton...and he was also in, umm, lots of other stuff. That she would surely recognize him if she saw him. After reading the articles about his passing, though, I'm not quite sure what all I've seen him in other than Patton. Most of his films were way before my time, but I know I've always enjoyed his work when I've seen it...
Regrettably, or maybe not, the only Malden role I remember was as the father in the troubling Jimmy Piersall biopic, "Fear Strikes Out." Formally requesting to remove and replace Ed McMahon from the dead celebrity triumvirate.
I say Ed McMahon over Fawcett. Streetcar/Waterfront/One-Eyed Jacks >>>>> Angels/one hot poster Jackson-Malden-McMahon? (Alternates Fawcett & Mays.) Carried?
