    Like his father and grandfather, John McCain spent his life serving his country. That he willingly subjected himself to the slings and arrows of political life after a career in the Navy that included five and a half years in the Hanoi Hilton, being beaten, starved, and subjected to torture, speaks to love he had for his country. McCain's death leaves a large hole in the heart of the Senate, and the nation has lost a man who is needed now more than ever before.
