Has anyone checked out this movie yet? I have, and I must say, it's currently on my Top 5 of the year so far. Now, I'm sure with the onslaught of the normally great movies that come out this time of year, it will fall. It was a great movie, nonetheless.

Great football, pretty good look at racial relations of the time. At first, I thought it was probably over-exaggerated for effect, but upon further reflection, it was probably all that and worse. It's horrible that our country ever went through a period like that.

BTW, my top 5 of the year so far:

    1. High Fidelity
    2. Almost Famous
    3. Wonder Boys
    4. But I'm a Cheerleader
    5. Remember the Titans

I read where remember the Titans was horrible. In the Washington Post it got two red dots (not green) and they ripped the movie for accuaracy and predictability. It kept me from going to see it. Do you recommend I check it out!

    1. Shanghai Noon
    2. Mission Impossible 2
    3. Hurricane
    3. Gladiator
    4. Patriot
    5. Girl fight
    6. U-571
    7. Erin Brockovich
    8. Duece Bigalow
    9. Green Mile

Haven't seen Remember the Titans (my wife did and she said it was great).

    My top 5:

    1. Almost Famous (an instant classic)
    2. Gladiator (close to #1)
    3. High Fidelity
    4. Not seen yet
    5. Not seen yet

The most disappointing movie was Nurse Betty. For the most part, it's been a weak year for movies.

Sorry to steer us away, but I wanted to ask about Almost Famous. Is it actually good, or is it good like Boogie Nights -- which was really, really unbearably bad -- was good? Currently, I have it pegged in the Boogie Nights category, but I wouldn't want to miss an actually good movie just because it looks like a Boogie Nights clone from the ads.

The first time I saw Boogie Nights I did not think too much of it. But I have watched snippets of it a number of times since then and it gets better each time.

Almost Famous is a different type of movie. It has a number of good laughs and it's an interesting story (especially since it is "semi-autobigraphical").

The only thing the two movies have in common is that they're both set in the 1970s (at least part in Boogie Nights).

I personally thought Boogie Nights was an excellent movie. Like Bobrek said, it gets better on repeated viewings.

how many times do we have to see a movie where they rehash the race relation problems and how terrible it was? and how the white man is always out to get the negro man...

turn the page and lets move on to some fresh ideas...

white guy opresses black guy...black guy overcomes the opression glorious music in the background fade to white..roll credits...one word BORING..

That's not what the movie's about at all. It's more about people throwing out their r****ded stereotypes about other people, very well done, I might add.

If you think it's boring, don't pay the $9 to go see it. I think those kind of movies are good because it reminds us of a horrible part of our history.

    1. Gladiator
    2. Patriot
    3. Remember the Titans
    4. Pitch Black (Did not get to much press. I think it comes out on video today. Great Sci-Fi/Action movie and Vin Diesel was awesome.)
    5. ???

I think Remember the Titans was a great movie. I walked out of the theater feeling good. That one scene where they are all at the hospital. Trust me I will not give anything away. Man if that did not tug at your heartstrings than something is wrong with you.

Remember that this took place in the 1970's. That was not so long ago. I think the black/white issue is big part of our history and something that can not be dusted under the rug. We have to face that this happened and I think this movie did a great job of focusing on the dynamics of each character.

Great acting and a real heartwarming story. Two big thumbs up!!! Of course they could not have picked a better name for the team!

    Go Titans!!!!

    Titan's fanatic!!!!

It was the first time the Titans sent an offense to the line of scrimmage with Eddie George in the backfield behind McNair to go with Wycheck at tight end and Carl Pickens, Kevin Dyson and Yancey Thigpen at wide receiver.

So many choices, with a full season still ahead.

"I think that might be scary for a defense," Dyson said.

I have to second Wonder Boys. Hardly anybody saw it and that is too bad because it is Micahel Douglas' best work in ages...very funny and quite good. The only other movie Ive really liked a lot was Gladiator.

    Jay,

Hopefully more will. They're re-releasing it in November.

    1. Gladiator-- far and away the best film I've seen this year.

    2. X-Men-- Pretty good, but not great. Better than expected and clearly number 2.

    3. High Fidelity-- had its moments, but a little too uneven for me.

    4. and 5. ???? As others stated, the pickings are slim this year.

I haven't seen The Way of the Gun, Almost Famous or Wonder Boys though and they might be good.

    Most unsatisfying fims were:

MI2--laughable, could they play lets switch faces predictably more times??

Patriot--North and South goes Revolutionary War.

They are re-releasing WonderBoys in theaters at the end of this month to get some Oscar buzz for Michael Douglas and Tobey Maguire.

I don't get why everyone loved Gladiator so much. It was slow & predictable.

anyone who hasnt seen remember the titans should go see it. Ive seen it twice once with friends and again with my varsity football teammates). It is superb, it does a great job combining seriousness with compassion and humor. As you can tell, I loved it.
