So it dawned on me that the Rockets last won a championship going on 20 years now. That was 94'-95. I started thinking, and was amazed at how similar this team is with that team. Check this out: 1.Kenny "the Jet" Smith = Jason Terry "the Jet", they pretty much do the same things, shoot the 3, try not to turn the ball over, and play sound defense. 2.Robert Horry=Josh Smith, Block shots, rebound, hit 3's when it matters, pretty much a little of everything. 3.Sam Cassell=Pablo Prigioni, I mean Sam was tough, hit the big 3's and didn't turn the ball over, Pablo is pretty much doing the same in the playoffs right now. 4.Mario Elie = Corey Brewer, He's the horrible 3 point shooter that makes it when it counts, plays tough as nails defense, and is always around the ball.(Mad Max would be comparable, but I think he only played like 1 playoff game) 5.Clyde Drexler = James Harden Get out in transition, get easy layups, get assists, set up their teammates, and is one of the super stars on the team. 6.Hakeem = Dwight , Ok I know not even close on offense, but Harden picks up the slack there, but on defense, I think Dwight is actually playing close if not better than Hakeem did that playoff year, so far. Terrance Jones could be another Robert Horry as well, or Chuckie brown lol Just thought, maybe, just maybe this is our year. 20 years later, similar team that shoots a lot of 3's. Goes to the post, and defends the 3 very well. 20 years later, its our time. #REINCARNATED
A pretty good comparison, but Prigioni is no Sam Cassell unfortunately. Sam Cassell from 94-95 would make us a Championship caliber team right now. We are not there yet.
I think the Heart of a Champion is what is being embodied this year from that awesome team. Everyone is humble and focused. You can see in Dwight's demeanor - dude is all business in the playoffs. They pull for each other. Everyone contributes. When we are ticking on the defensive end, the offense opens up for us in transition. If we keep this as our emphasis, we will be unstoppable.
Mario Elie shot 39.8% from downtown in 94/95. 43.1% in the playoffs that year. A career 37% shooter from 3 point land - very very far from being a horrible shooter. All told, I think your reincarnation thing is about as close as writing 2 names on a piece of paper. From there it about ends...
coach who was a former player who got messed up by the game.. not the greatest x's and o's guy but more of a motivational players coach... does a busted nose = a pimp walk?
I think the biggest comparison would be that both teams won a championship in a year ending with 5. =D
