Warmly welcome the Round Rock Express back to the Astros organization??

edit: I'm an idiot...he is involved with Corpus...not Round Rock.

Reid Ryan sounds like the civilian name for a super hero.

I think so...definitely a baseball guy who gets the culture. Has experience running a baseball organization.

Both, actually. He's the CEO of Ryan-Sanders Baseball which owns both teams.

It would be a good choice. The Express have done very well to remain relevant even when they're down. He has a good knowledge of how you treat your fans. Hopefully, if hired, Crane will let him work and listen to him.

I like the idea of this.

Astros would get Round Rock back and Astros could get Nolan PR if his time in Dallas finally does sour.

Biggio needs a place in the organization as well on the charity level

It's not that simple (getting RR back).

I had heard that the Astros have or are close to closing on the land that is currently Camp Strake (west side of I-45 just south of 336).

I'd rather them get RR back. I don't like the Rangers being in the Austin area.

The people in the Austin area can watch the Rangers on TV and not the Astros anyway. There isn't going to be much "Astros country" outside of the greater Houston area much longer, sadly

Living 5 minutes from the Dell Diamond, it kills me. I haven't been back to a game since they switched after going to 15-20 per season.

Jon Heyman is still a tool, though.

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Looks like Reid Ryan (Nolan's son) will indeed be next Astros president, @<a href="https://twitter.com/jonheymancbs">jonheymancbs</a> reports. <a href="http://t.co/3yS9tM9CuE" title="http://cbsprt.co/10Ifs1C">cbsprt.co/10Ifs1C</a></p>&mdash; Danny Knobler (@DannyKnoblerCBS) <a href="https://twitter.com/DannyKnoblerCBS/status/335055789851033600">May 16, 2013</a></blockquote>

From a PR standpoint, this is a good hire. Potentially a REALLY good hire in terms of what it communicates about change in direction...or concern about changing the public's perception of their direction off the field.

I don't know. Unless they switched the arrogant loudmouth owner the public isn't changing its perception.

$10 million check was his undoing. Postolos didn't open his mouth.

Understood and I agree. But you have to start somewhere. If you work hard enough at it, perception will change. Ultimately, if they were winning right now no one would give a rat's ass what the owner was saying.

Nolan Ryan’s son Reid, who has helped make the Class AAA Round Rock Express and Class AA Corpus Christi Hooks two of the most successful minor-league clubs in America, would be the perfect fit to become the Astros’ next president.

Since 1999, Reid Ryan has been the president and CEO of Ryan Sanders Baseball, which was founded by highly respected Houston businessman Don Sanders and Nolan Ryan. He helped secure funding through the public and private sector to build two minor-league baseball stadiums that are considered among the best in the country.

Dell Diamond is owned by the Round Rock Express. Although the city of Round Rock did give the group some money for the stadium’s construction, Dell Diamond was built primarily with private funds from Ryan Sanders Baseball. Whataburger Field was built by Corpus Christi, which funded the project through special tourist taxes. The Hooks manage picturesque Whataburger Field for Corpus Christi.

More than that, Reid Ryan understands the Astros’ organization, the Astros’ fan base and the city of Houston. Although his father ultimately went into the Hall of Fame as a Ranger despite playing nine seasons with the Astros, Reid Ryan has always viewed the Astros as his hometown team.

Reid Ryan, who couldn’t be reached at his cell phone, would bring instant credibility to the Astros’ business operations throughout Houston and throughout the baseball industry. He understands the complexities of selling a long baseball season to fans, sponsors and rights holders.

People who have done business with Reid Ryan tell me he would be as good as anybody to replace the departed George Postolos.

Jim Crane surely has received several endorsements of Reid Ryan, who at 41 years old is tremendously well respected in the baseball industry. Rightfully so, Crane holds Craig Biggio and Roger Clemens in high regard. Did you know that those two legends thought enough of Reid Ryan to invest in Ryan Sanders Baseball?

Much like his famous father, Reid Ryan is charismatic and willing to interact with business partners, season-ticket holders and any ordinary fans in the ballpark. He also is beloved by his employees, and that trait would be appreciated at Union Station now that Postolos has been ushered out.

For a team committed to building through the farm system, Jim Crane would be wise to call Reid Ryan up from Round Rock and Corpus Christi.

I hope the first thing Ryan Does is muzzle the owner and threaten to leave if he tries to take it off.

Postolos did open his mouth when he publicly bashed Larry Dierker. Maybe Dierk was coming off as petulant when he didn't get the tv job. But it still didn't do Postolos and the club any good by berating a local legend in the press.
