Okay, I didn't want to start a new thread so sorry if this feels out of place with Will's defensive report cards. I kept getting "Kon hit 200 threes this year" notifications and so I was curious... if Reed was playing as many minutes as Kon would he theoretically have as many made threes? Kon has played 1853 minutes so far this season and has 201 made threes on 461 attempts at 43.6% - just under 8 attempts per game Reed has played 1379 minutes and has 136 made on 349 attempts at 39% - average 6.2 attempts per game (Note: Charlotte has played 58 games to our 56) Rhythm is always part of making shots, so what do you all think? If Reed was getting 32 minutes per game like Kon (rather than the 24 he's averaging) could he also be at +43% and hitting 200 threes thus far in the season? If we extrapolate that say he's taking 2 more attempts a game to match that would be 112 more shots, then without any game flow context say he makes the 40% that would add 45 makes and put him at 181 in two less games than Kon. I'm not a stats specialist and of course any calculation doesn't take on court defenses etc into account. I was just curious and wanted to play with the possiblity.
No. Kon is runaway rookie of the year and deservedly so. He is much better in virtually every aspect of the game. Very few saw that coming. I’d trade Reed and 2 of our Frp’s for Kon in a wink.
Reed semi cooked him last game. If Reed is starting to cook you, your defense is in trouble. Maybe his scoring will make up for it.
If I post an eyeroll is that disrespectful? And honestly, I liked watching Kon's play more at Duke than Cooper Flagg (not that I EVER fully enjoy watching Duke). So I could have told you he was going to be a good rookie on a bad team.
My bad forgot about Cooper, although I think you could still make a case for Kon. Flagg is great as well. I wanted to trade like 5 picks for him.
Kon is just better plain and simple, but Reed hasn’t exactly been put in a situation since he’s gotten here to focus on developing him like Kon has. I’d still say Kon ends up being better even if Reed was…but it would be closer than you think
I have no doubt that Reed will be a 40+% volume 3pt shooter if he is given starter minutes and in a system that accentuates his shooting. Kon's advantage over Reed is obviously his size. Reed just has to be so much better than Kon in shooting in order to get to Kon's level because of the size disadvantage.
Ime came up under pop and if you recall the brutally tough love inflicted on Tony Parker early on we still may have hope…
No, this is great. Thanks for adding your points about the offense. I mostly neglected that. (And it wouldn't surprise me at all if the 4th pick in Kon's draft is better than the 3rd pick in Reed's draft)
Kon is easily the best rookie so far. Flagg is likely better long-term, and I'm guessing he wins rookie of the year. I will say that Charlotte plays 4-5 shooters almost exclusively. I'd like to see Reed in an open offense playing with 3 other shooters, but alos have some defensive protection.
I think we tend to overlook what I’d call elite hands and court vision when comparing Reed to others. Not sorry when I say Reed makes passes that very few NBA players make, and he puts in the “pocket” if you will.
yes, he is, but I was strictly just going on three point shooting since that is something Reed is known for offensively
Hot shooting night for Reed. Court spacing looked good for portions of the first with Reed and 3 other shooters. 2nd half, he was basically an afterthought in the offense. I'm not anti-ISO, but offense sputters when it gets too iso heavy.
He is 6'6 he can play 1-3. He played SG or PG at duke. King Kon is like if Reed Sheppard ate a mushroom in Super Mario. Just taller and better in all aspects. I would honestly trade Amen straight up for KK. We can pair him with Reed and we'll have Splash bros 2.0.
