Yes, there are plenty of energy sector jobs here in Houston. If you have no energy experience at all, it may be tough at first to get something that corresponds to the value of your JD and Finance degree, but it also really depends on what you want to do in the long-run. A finance degree can be translated into a number of different roles (business controls, energy portfolio management, performance analytics, etc.). The JD can help even if you don't want to litigate or deal with contracts. There are more entry-level type regulatory roles that would expose you to working with FERC, NERA, the EPA, or state-level regulatory bodies.
That's true of alot of professions nowadays...what few positions there are, tons of people applying for them...I had to move out of state to get a job and I can't wait to get back to Texas..IMHO, Texas is the best place on earth...tons to see and do, some of the most beautiful women and great food...
