The old talk of him re-signing in Dallas has come to fruition...Raef is set to re-sign in Dallas: 7yrs, $60,000,000.

Edit: Shawn Bradley didn't get quite the deal I thought he did.

Dallas did keep one of the better young quasi-centers in the league locked up for awhile - or at least until they trade him.

Not Only is he over rated but now hes over paid too

Also, does anyyone have a list of current player salaries, I am curious to see how many players get a lot less money and are a lot better than him.

the deal was 7 yrs, 60-64 million depending on what reports you read.

9mil a year isnt a lot when you look at what some players are making.

    ala kelvin cato.

    Whoa!!!

I guess if you have Cuban's money anything goes.

I really dont think he is the intergal piece of the Mavs puzzle....

What the Mavs need is big and physical post players who can play DEFENSE.

I will say it again.... maybe Mark is reading......

    DEFENSE!!!

I agree, to me he is the bargain basement version of Nowizitski, but why bother when you already have the real thing?

aexchange, excellent point. A lot of people do not realize that there is no one out there that would definitely improve the Mavs defense, but they would rather just crack on Mark Cuban for building a winner. Makes sense doesn't it.

As for Raef, we might have been able to sign him for less. But I think if you compare it to other centers at his talent level, it isn't that far off. Also he has a lot of room for improvement in the next seven years.

    Dale Davis.
    PJ Brown.
    Elden Cambell.
    Kurt Thomas.

    Players like that.

Also, teaching your players currently on the team how to play defense would help too - because they have no clue.

All offense and no defense makes the Mavs second round fodder.

Are any of those guys free agents? The Mavericks want to keep their top three players and there isn't much interest in the other players we have. You can't just force a trade to happen. If you see a trade that would be beneficial to both teams I would definitely like to see it.

Do the knicks still want to give you guys KT+filler for Van Exel? Or has that all dried up now? I'd definitely do that deal.

Astro, I am not sure if that trade is still on the table or not, but I personally wouldn't want to make that trade. Nash always get worn out during the regular season and if we trade NVE and only get Charlie Ward in return, Nash will be worn out again this year. I have heard rumors of a trade that would send NVE and Bradley to NY for Kurt Thomas, Charlie Ward, and either (Harrington, or Clarence Weatherspoon) and maybe a pick thrown in there somewhere. I would do this deal. I don't see why NY would but a lot of NY fans actually liked the deal. The Mavericks could then pick up a point guard like Travis Best for the MLE and would then have a lineup like:

    Nash/Best/Ward
    Finley/Wahad
    Dirk/Griffin
    Kurt Thomas/Weatherspoon or Harrington
    Lafrentz/Wang/Esch

If we could have an offseason like that, I think the Mavericks would have a better chance of beating the Kings next season.
