We don't know if Canaan is ready or not because McHale hasn't trusted him enough to give him any significant minutes yet. Seems like a backup PG would be a more pressing need at the moment given that fact and the uncertainty with Beverley.
Oh, so potential must be what oozes out when a guy is cut. Denver cut this guy for Alonzo Gee,one of the non guaranteed contract in the Asik and Terry trades.
I'd argue a PF is still the number 1 priority You have Canaan start splitting that duty with Harden (because we have great SG depth) and Terry (along with Terry playing minutes at SG he could surely help as the 3rd/back-up if Canaan's game is off). With this team while it would be AMAZING doesn't absolutley HAVE to have a true PG Harden can help on PG duties considering we have good players who could man the SG position- Terry can play more of the 3rd/back-up PG job is Canaan's game is off- I would probably call up Nick Johnson though The PG position and SG position would both be game enough to rely on its consistency which still leaves the big question mark at PF.. there is no consistency there- you have no idea what to even semi-expect from that position night in and night out.
There aren't any viable power foward options available in free agency so it's a moot point. Will Bynum and Gal Mekel could potentially be an upgrade depending on whether or not Canaan is ready. There is not a PF upgrade out there to be had unless you are a Jeff Adrien fan and that decision has already been made.
This is a no brainer signing. Let him play in the D league till needed or the whole season; only good things can happen if he is on minimum contract. His not a bad player just baired in the Nugget's wing depth; he looked so promising coming out of the draft. Just not a good fit in Denver - ie DMo here in Houston. Cut Garcia to make the room.
