The Republican party has ceased to be a viable political party. There is simply no way to categorize them as anything other than traitors to this country.
The big threat is clearly this. I think Trump doesn't care about Russian interference in our elections not only because Russia/Putin may have dirt on him. I'm not sure they do, but he knows it benefits him and his politics. If Russians can help him win elections then why stop it? He's the very definition of a corrupt politician and corrupt president. Our intelligence agencies are screaming RED ALERT and for the entire party to ignore it is terrifying. As I keep saying, the right wing party, the conservatives of this nation, have moved to the right and are nearing full authoritarian near fascist thinking nowadays. They want a one-party rule. That much is clear.
What is their rationale for voting down a pittance for added cyber-security? I mean, I understand that, cynically, they know Russia will only help them maintain their power. But what's the stated reason?
Their reason... they see it as a opportunity for Democrats to speak to why this was needed by pointing to trump.

Trump will not, in any terms, besmirch, demean, or otherwise non-sycophantically refer to Putin. Trump owes his financial existence to Russian money, has been gassed up for years by the idea that Trump-himself can be the American Putin, and likely, due to his shady financial operations, vulnerable to blackmail. Naw… Trump will always present anything dealing with Putin in a light that makes Putin appear "strong."
