I liked Torreyes (mostly for 2B defense), but he's been having problems this year with bat. He has little position flexibility so he was tough to keep.

Billy Preston, Chris Tucker? Well yeah! I like the looks of his swing, he may be a nice addition.

So, Tucker is now slashing .324/.419/.595, for a decent 1.014 OPS. Only 43 PA, but results are results

This guy has to be in the lineup every day right now, start trying to work in some reps at 1B if necessary. He didn't fare well in the minors at 1B, but our best lineup may have him, Gattis, and the 3 OF's, we shouldn't be forced to start Carter every day.

You wouldn't trade those two for a legitimate ace pitcher that's signed for several more years? Appel is a questionmark to even make the major leagues, and we have too many players as is that can't get playing time - and many more on the way. Tucker has all of 40 at bats and wasn't even part of the thinking coming into this season. If you're not willing to trade those two for an ace, no trade is ever going to work.

I suspect Philly would laugh at that trade, but trading 2 or 3 prospects for 1 established guy is exactly how we fill holes and solve the roster crunch.

I don't think the several more years is a good thing.

If all it takes to get Hamels is Appel and Tucker, I'll even throw in Aplin for fun.

Fact of the matter is that we have way too many prospects and there is not enough playing time in the future for them. Plus, Appel sucks. Get rid of him now before his stock becomes zero.

You could say the same about hamels. Plus his contract vs years of cheap control for Appel offset some.
