Ok, so I know it's early but I really wanted to talk about this and waited long enough to make this thread waiting for someone more creditable because my flame suit is at the dry cleaners. Anyway I thought it could be fun before we really see any of the rookies in the summer league. I was wondering who you think the Rookie of the year will be. With all the Talent in the draft I personally don't see a clear cut favorite (even though Davis was the clear number #1 overall). So here is my current predictions. I'll go in order of the draft and choose the players I think have a legit shot. #1 Anthony Davis - I think he may be the best in the draft at the end of his career but his his offense is not NBA ready and people like to see their Rookie of the Year scoring major points and flying thru the air (I dont think the dunks he got in college will happen in the NBA ) # 2 Michael Kidd-Gilchrist - He will be the best player on the Bobcats and he may look like a big fish in a small pond #3 Bradley Beal - He and Wall are going to be really exciting, the only issue I see will be the amount of shots Wall wants to give up to a rookie first year #6 Damian Lillard - Portland maybe in the rebuild process but they're not blowing things up. With Aldridge still on the roster this could be a very interesting season for them. I see him doing what Rubio did for the Wolves last year. I really think Lamb will do really well and I see White being the same type of player Kawhi Leonard and Kenneth Faried were for the Spurs and Nuggets. In addition to really make it fun, if any one other then Bradley Beal (clearly my pick) wins the ROTY I will put $30 in the tip jar. What are your thoughts before seeing the talent and relying basically on instinct and college hype. Is any one willing to put up some money to the tipjar? P.S. - I've lurked the forum long enough to know if I'm wrong and don't pay up I'll be outcast... I'm a man of my word
Anthony Davis. Hype will win him the award. Lamb will be on an All-Rookie Team, possibly Royce as well.
I don't see Davis having a ROTY type season. He will be an All Star type one day, but I don't see his skills translating in year one. Dwight was a 10-10 guy his first season.
Damian Lillard he'll get the start which important for winning ROY, I see him averaging something like 18.6 point 5.2 assists.
Good point. Hadn't considered that. I still think he has a fairly good chance, as it seems like they're really handing the reins to him. I think MKG has a good chance, no? The Bobcats could really use somebody becoming the leader of their team. How do you think the Houston's rookies will come out to?
Jonas Valančiūnas would have been a lock if Nash went to Toronto. Even with Calderon feeding him the rock, I still think he has the best shot to win it. Being a Euro who was drafted last year, people are sleeping on him. He's taller, stronger, and has a better face up game than Davis. Post games for both are a work in progress, but Val has an actual PG on his team. 2nd guess is Beal for sure.
I agree with this. ROY tends to favor guys who put up bigger offensive numbes. For that reason I think MKG or Lillard will win it. I thought Sullinger would be a good sleeper pick if the Celtics blew the team up. Not so much anymore.
MKG will be a monster, but, ROTY normally goes to a guy who puts up monster numbers. MKG is a defensive specialist. I think Royce White will be like Chandler Parsons last year(not the same type of player but the same impact) because Mchale will love him and give him plenty of PT. T Jones will have a good 2nd half to the season after he's called up from the D-League.(the Rox won't have room for him.)
