Neither Hibbert nor Aldridge is very physical or tough. They will have a size advantage nearly every game but they won't physically dominate teams as much as people think. I hate to use the word soft, but neither guy maximizes their size.

They still have an all-star named Aldridge; so no, I don't think it is very similar.

Seems to me that building a team around bang for the buck players/positions makes more sense than using it unwisely on the most pricey, least bang for the buck position, center.

Reading through this thread, I kept thinking about Asik and his 8M/yr Morey offered. While that is overpaying (imo), it seems like any half decent center is getting overpaid these days. So why overpay a 2nd tier guy with a max contract when you could bolster any/many of the other positions with all that excessive overspent cap room?

The Heat showed everyone you dont need a 1st or 2nd tier center to succeed.

Who ever ends up with Hibbert is going to regret it sooner or later. There just wont be the cap room to keep the players you need at the other positions. I am not saying dont pay a max contract. I am saying if you do, it needs to be a game changer. A Lebron, Kobe or a Dwight. Not Hibbert.

Hibbert is not a max player. What is Portland thinking?

Yeah, but we should put a disclaimer with that as well and say that they also have 3 top 13-16 players in the league and two of them are arguably in top 6-7 players. While, one is probably the best player in the league.

    Same argument with OKC.

It's different when you have prime time players.

Well then if you like Hibbert for the max isn't Asik for 8M beyond reasonable? Overall I think Asik's caliber as a player is near Hibbert's, yet you have people on this board complaining that we overpaid for Asik but then Portland rocks for signing Hibbert to the max?

Don't get me wrong, I love the Portland FO, I think they've done an amazing job rebuilding after Oden and Roy flopped, esp. with that 6th pick coup for 2 months of Gerald Wallace.

LMAO. Funniest thing I've ever heard. We overpaid for Asik because we are beyond desperate and Asik is nowhere close to the caliber player that Hibbert is. You're a funny one. Doesn't surprise me though considering you think Kyle Lowry and Rajon Rondo are on the same level.

I think Asik is going to surprise a lot of people. No he's not going to dominate but he is capable of solidifying the position. I think he can be that 7-foot Chuck Hayes we've always dreamed of. Is Hibbert more talented? Yes. Is Hibbert more conducive to winning? I wouldn't be so sure... Is Hibbert worth the max? Definitely not.
