I don't know how I was quoted as "blah" because I never use the word. I'm just saying Sims shouldve been in summer league or signed to a minimum deal earlier once he started tearing up the d-league. When hayes is ur backup, there is a problem.
He just signed with the Austin Toros......the Spurs minor league team...OWNED by the Spurs. Their organization is so far ahead of the Rockets it is not even funny. This is a way for them to get a free look, in THEIR system...at the NBDL level. DD
dude, relax. we're talking Pops mensah-bonsu, not world be free. Morey has stated in interviews that he was leaving money open under the cap to be able to take in more salary by trade. If he signed this scrub, some of that freedom would be gone.
That was not my main point...not that he is going to be a difference maker but that the Spurs are smart enough to have their own minor league team. The Rocket's could have bought the Toros too, and they could have been funneling players through there for free looks......but instead...they took the easy approach and kept the affiliation with the Vipers...which do not run their system. See the Spurs get to look at players in THEIR system, and that is a major advantage if they want to sign them, they are already familiar with what the big club is doing. It is a better overall organizational strategy. DD
Reading comprehension is not your thing, huh? I wouldn't sign Pops....but was making a commentary on the organizations approach to the NBDL as a whole, it is relevent in this thread because Pops was signed by the Toros. Kappa Sigs......not true Sigs anyway.....those are Sigma Chis. DD
didn't this same rumor from probably the same spanish site pop up earlier this year??? I'm pretty sure someone posted it about 2 months ago
DD- Some people will never understand. They couldce bought the toros, put in their own coaches and playbook along with development players. A player gets hurt for a couple of weeks, go to ur d-league team. Another reason why Ming's money to Les is overrated. If he was getting so much, why not buy the toros or vipers?
I would argue that in today's economy, the better strategy would be to not have an affiliation with a minor league team. It puts a strain on cash flows and could potentially hamper the way you run different aspects of the NBA team. (i.e. marketing, low cost free agent acquisitions, concessions)
No it doesn't, they run the minor league team as a completely seperate business entity........ Next. DD
100% agree Leeb...it is short sighted by the Rockets, and long sighted by the Spurs. They may not get a player every year, but if they get one or two out of it over 5ish years it will be worth it for them. As soon as the NBA starts letting team's assign veterans to the D-league for rehab assignments it will be even better. DD
Regardless of the amount of DBA's, it all comes back to Leslie Alexanders net worth and diminishing value. Next
None yet, but they have sent a few down there to play and learn IN THEIR SYSTEM.... Imagine if we could send Dorsey down to play within the exact same role he will fill on the Rockets in the same system? That is the benefit....these teams are solvent on their own, they are not a drain on the big club.....it makes perfect sense. DD
If the business is a seperate entity, and not a DBA.....that is rookie stuff.....then you have no problem. Also it is an asset..... NEXT ! DD
