So for Xmas I got this mixed nut variety of mostly shelled pistachios. Gotta say pistachios arent the same without sucking the salty shells first and for some reason dont seem as fresh and crunchy when theyre shelled.
About as much of a debate as sunflower seeds with or without. Why even eat the seeds if you can't lick the shells?
The sacrifice in crunchiness is worth not running into the 10 or so of these per bag that eff up your nails/teeth when attempting to deshell...
You get it. People that voted "with shells" are much more diligent than me. I don't want to waste time trying to unshell these things - even the ones that come out of the shell easily.
So, @OmegaSupreme and @Juxtaposed Jolt , the two weirdos that voted for without shells have outed themselves... Get out of here you weirdos.
They are actually very tasty on their own, without the salt. I get why people love the salt, but there is more to them that the salt often disguises. I can't even eat prepackaged salted nuts anymore, its like chewing on a salt lick. You could replace the nuts with styrofoam and get the same effect. Way overboard. I think I agree that they seem crisper from in the shell.
I like food where the work is part of the experience. Seriously. Something about working on peanut shells, sunflower shells, etc. that offers a little reward. Its probably also why I like spending a lot of time drinking beer and eating crawfish.
Ditto on fresh roasted peanuts. They are so good without the salt. The bags of peanuts you get at the grocery store arent fresh and have been salted to hell and back. Dont see how anybody can enjoy those. My family used to go to Caninos and get the huge 50lb bag of roasted peanuts to have all the time and give away to family and friends. So good. You do it cause its delicious and pair so well together.
Sunflower seeds and pistachios without shells is just wrong. Not to mention, sunflower seeds without the shell means you can eat the damn jar in 2 handfuls. They're dangerous. lol. Also want to add that peanuts still in the shell (warmed in the microwave) always taste better than without. Meaning, I'd rather heat them and pop them out of the shell, then eat them.
Agreed. Target has a raw mixed nut container consisting of pistachios, cashews, almonds , walnuts and hazelnuts. They tend to be a little chewy. Otherwise I preferred shelled pistachios. It's nice to watch a show and not eat the whole bag in 5 minutes.
True, opening the beer can is part of the worthy struggle. I refuse to vote in this poll. I like 'em both. Have both varieties in the house right now for whatever mood strikes.
