Our chances at signing Stromile Swift might have just vanished.

Swift is an excellent candidate for "Guy who's going to be the most massively overpaid very soon" award, formerly held by Maurice Taylor, Kelvin Cato, and other illustrious big men.

I think we did have a good shot at Swift. He wouldn't have gotten good offers from a lot of teams, because there aren't that many teams that have cap room. And those that did have cap room, had their own FA to worry about, or would probably try to sign different positions, (i.e. Chicago, Seattle, Cleveland).

The only teams with cap room that might have made a run at Swift was Atlanta, and possibly Charlotte. And it seems like Atlanta has their eyes on Dalembert. And the Grizz aren't interested in giving him a fat contract in order to sit behind Gasol. So I thought we had just as good a chance as any other team.

But all of that talk is mootsville now, with the Hornets clearing all that salary. And they probably won't have to break the bank to land Swift for the reasons I've already stated; there just won't be that many big offers for him.

If New Orleans knows what's good for them, they will offer Swift something in the neighborhood of what Q. Rich got (slightly over the full MLE), and not Boozer money.
