The American team has been drawn in Group B alongside China, defending world champions Spain and Angola. The two other teams in the six-team group will come from an Olympic qualifying tournament in Greece in June. Group A comprises Lithuania, Russia, defending Olympic champions Argentina, Iran and Australia. The sixth team will come from the Athens tournament. In the women's tournament, USA, the defending Olympic champions, were drawn in Group B with China, Mali and New Zealand. Two more teams in the group will be decided in a qualifying tournament in June in Spain.
