Trying to shore up some depth at vital positions, the Texans have extended offers to safety Chris Crocker and center John Wade. They are also meeting with DE Corey Smith. Houston Chron Crocker was a starter for Atlanta last season. Had 6 tackles in one game against us last season. espn profile - crocker Wade is a 10-year veteran and has started for Tampa in 5 of the last 6 seasons. Smith, a 5-year veteran, has 4.5 sacks in the last 2 seasons with Detroit. espn profile - smith I like what Rick Smith and Kubiak are doing. They are avoiding the big money signings and increasing depth at positions of need. We don't need to make a mistake by signing a high-dollar athlete and therefore hurting our long term cap situation. I would rather wait for the draft and see who gets cut in June. We are the Anti-Al Davis Raiders.
Not a chick, my friend. He's your Houston Texans' brand new safety. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Crocker_(Internet_celebrity) "LEAVE MARIO ALONE!"
Ok lets not look at the stats for once. He didnt bring anye xcitement and hes probably the slowest running Ive seen in the league last year... With a guy like Walker possibly starting, who knows how much better our run game could be
From Rotoworld.com: NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Texans will host free agent Chris Brown on Wednesday. No team will ever give Brown a chance to be an every-down back again, but he'd add experienced, talented competition for Ahman Green, Darius Walker, and Chris Taylor in Houston. Brown's style is tailor made for zone blocking.
Just a little tidbit of scary news: Defensive tackle Amobi Okoye, Ahman Green, Osi Umenyiora and a few other Nigerian-born NFL players were involved in an auto accident in northern Nigeria while on tour for some charity work. A petrol tanker rear-ended their luxury bus on the Abuja-Kaduna highway. There were no injuries reported, thankfully. The players were invited by President Umaru Yar'Adua as part of an outreach to Nigerians abroad to return and help build the nation. I like this a lot. Brown is a very good back who simply is too fragile to handle full-time work. But in a system where he comes off the bench for 8-10 carries a game, he can be a real asset.
Either John McClain is an idiot, or the Chronicle needs some copy editors. From the 4th and 12th graphs of his free agency story tonight: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/5614462.html
...not sure where post this... http://www.myfoxhouston.com/myfox/p...n=4&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=6.2.1 ...amorephd...
http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/03/19/gray-to-visit-houston/ Former Jags quarterback Quinn Gray, who not long ago visited the Packers, will next spend time with the Houston Texans. Per a league source, Gray will visit the Texans on Sunday. The Texans already have Matt Schaub and Sage Rosenfels at the top two positions; Gray’s best bet would be to secure the No. 3 spot on the depth chart. Unless the Texans are interested in revisiting trade talks with the Vikings regarding Rosenfels. Last month, the Vikes were willing to give up a third-round pick for Rosenfels, but the Texans wanted a third-rounder.
interesting.... Kubiak doesn't like to carry three qb's so I would have to think that if this is true, they are considering trading Sage
Gray would be a good singing IMO. He put up similar numbers to Sage last season, and torched us in the final week. I don't think he's a huge drop off from Sage, and I think it's actually an upgrade considering we'd be able to trade Sage for a pick.
someone else mentioned it, but doesn't rosenfels for taylor make a lot of sense? he's 28 but with only one season of more than 160 carries. he posted a 1,200-yard year in his one and only full season as a starter; has 14 carries of 20+ yards the past two years, including runs of 95 and 84 (meanwhile, dayne has 13 - for his career); and like rosenfels, he's a luxury back-up... what am i missing?
Would you be looking at Taylor as a starter or a back-up? It seems like this team is full of starters but is lacking that starting calibur back. I like Taylor but I would also like to have that 3rd rounder for Sage if that offer is still on the table, especially now that we don't have a 6th.
