I wonder *if* a "right candidate" exists for the trump supporters. Sure, they seem to promote Gabbard since some of her statements and positions seem to favor or align with trump's and she has been the least critical of trump. But even then, even if Democrats would seriously consider her (I honestly don't, for example) I doubt any trump supporter would honestly vote for her. Nor would I expect that trump supporters would honestly support any so-called "moderate" Democrat. I suspect the key to a Democrat winning would be someone that appeals to the large number of Democrats (especially those that didn't go to the polls in 2016) and attract enough "independents" to counter republicans and so-called libertarians that will vote for trump (or any other candidate with a R next to their name).
Yeah - I'm curious about that part too. If he was "flaming" gay in his mannerisms/etc, I think it would be a bigger deal. But like Obama's version of blackness, he's not the gay stereotype. There was a lot of talk that being black would hurt Obama in the midwest (Hillary crushed him there in the primaries) and also with Latino voters, but neither of those played out in the end - and that was against McCain, a white noble war hero. I think Trump being so despicable helps in that regard as well. His trade wars and all the upheaval he's causing help as well. At the end of the day, I think "not-Hillary" ultimately gains more votes than "gay" loses? Combine that with people disliking Trump more and continuing demographic shifts, and I find it hard to believe any of the major Dems outside of Bernie would lose (barring something crazy like a major scandal or a 9/11, etc). I don't like many of them, but I think they'd mostly win.
This kind of stuff is where I think he contrasts so well with Trump - he's able to stand above things without getting dragged into the mud. Any consideration of Pete Buttigieg (or any democratic candidate) should be whether they can win in states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Wisconsin, Indiana, Florida and Minnesota. The rest of the states are not likely to flip. I have real concerns that Pete can win Arizona or Indiana under any circumstances. That is fine, he does not need to win either state to become President. Would Pete deliver Michigan? Polling suggests that 1/4 of Bernie Sanders voters would support Trump in a GL over another democrat. Based on history, would Pete get enough of the black vote in places like Michigan and Ohio to win the state? Does Pete bring anything special to winning Florida?

I agree, but I have to ask will you just not vote or what dem candidate would cause you to vote for Trump? I think the fact that is missed is that many voted for Trump as A anti Hillary vote but I think many of those voters will just stay home.

The majority of the Black base is women and young people I don't think being gay will be the problem his being another white male is the real issue. But the counterweight to that issue is that those same people will be energized to vote out Trump.
No experience didn't hurt Trump. All baby-face buttigieg has to do is position himself as someone who will undo everything Trump did and he should win.
Buttigieg was a Lieutenant in the Naval Reserve for 8 years, serving an an intelligence officer in Afghanistan. Since the left tends to count on the African American vote I'm curious if that would effect whether or not to go with an openly gay candidate. African American's are the most opposed race to gay marriage. Though I would be curious if those that are opposed to gay marriage are actually voters, or if they would be down for anyone but Trump. Or maybe they decide not to turn out if they don't like either option?
