He is listed to start game 3, just a typo. Glad to see they are giving Javier some time off. If Framber is good he should be able to start this game and the first game out of the break, we also have a couple of off days before the end of July and hopefully Urquidy should be back near the end of the month. Just try to buy some time with this makeshift rotation.
Meyers needs to hit 2 homers today. There was speculation with him in a trade instead of Chas in the trade rumors thread followed by multiple posts that the Astros side of the deal was light.
Agree on giving Javier some time off. If I'm not mistaken, after the all-star break they go on the road and play the Angels/3 gms, COL/3 gms and the A's/4 gms. I would sit Javier on this road trip as well. If he's not hurt they still need to monitor his IP this yr, and if his arm is dead given his load from last yr and pitching in the World baseball classic, they need to sit him because if they can't get him back to last years form I just don't see them going on a deep playoff run.
They can't sit him for that long without putting him on the IL. They can't put him on the IL unless he agrees to it or the PA may file a grievance. Dusty (and maybe Brown?) publicly said he was healthy and feeling good. I think they need to go to a 6 man rotation after the all star break. Maybe limit Javier's pitches and innings for the next few weeks.
They don't need him to agree to getting optioned to AAA. Not that I think it would come to that, but if the Astros think he needs to be shut down for a spell they can make it happen. I don't see why Javier wouldn't agree to an IL stint, we already gave him the big payday. With the break coming he's not scheduled to pitch for a while anyhow.
That's a great point that I forgot to consider. And his performance recently merits such a move. If they think they can rest him or fix him down there. There are not enough arms on the MLB roster to keep skipping him while on the 26.
We need to at the very least split this series so we don't lose ground to the Rangers before the break. A sweep would be nice though.
I have not seen a single Diaz homerun live this season, hoping he can hit another one today.... I'll be tuning in...
You disable him. It's not even remotely a question. He's eligible to come off Tuesday after the all star break. That's literally the 4th game back from the ASB. It's basically his turn in the rotation.
Teams put players on the DL all the time by making up some injury. Stros have done this with LMJ and Urquidy over the past few years and the LAD do quite a bit as well. This is done obviously with the team and player being on the same page. In this case Javier (nor the Stros) have any desire of sending him down to the minors to get him get straightened out. He's been overworked the past year and a half and his arm is more than likely dead. Even if he wasn't struggling this yr they'd be looking at shutting him down at some point this yr because his IP will go way over what he did last yr which was a career high (Between the regular season and playoffs he was at around 160 IP). He needs to be shut down longer than just over the all-star break. This is if he's not injured and not a mechanical issue.
Sure. Tired arm. No pitcher in July doesn't have a tired arm. Why would the PA give a ****? They aren't sending him to a work camp in Siberia. Presumably he'd still be hanging out at MMP with the team and then getting on a flight thursday to Los Angeles to play the Angels same as it ever was.
