In all honesty, we are deploying an all-switch defense with the wrong personnel. Here are all the players on our team that are good at switch defense. Tucker Paul Capela Here are all the players that are horrible at it: everyone else. It’s also messing up our defensive rebounding. And disrupting our offensive flow. This is on Morey.
THis guy is stoic the whole time they need a real coach with a philosophy. Its ridiculous how we have no identity. We can take a step back defensively because of two guys leaving but their is no accountability right now. Guys are getting blown bye on defense with straight lines to the basket. No rim protection
You guys better STFU. I love that guy. He’s a paragon of light and a modern day interviewee genius. Roy Rogers 4 lyfe.
It's not so much the personnel as it is the new guys absolutely suck at switching because they don't know what they're doing. And there is no communication when it comes to switching the pick and roll. There has to be anticipation of the screen in order to effectively switch. If players aren't communicating, and don't see the screen coming, they can't get underneath the offensive player on the roll and they get killed. And if they do get beat, the help defense needs to communicate. There is just a lack of communication all the way around. The new guys just aren't good at it. It only takes one guy on defense to screw up and it screws up the whole possession. Add in the fact that you have several new guys screwing up, and they can't stop anything. It's not that the personnel they have *can't* switch... it's that they haven't been effectively taught to. They are just getting totally beat. That shouldn't happen no matter what. You could have 5-man team of all point guards under 6 feet tall on the floor, and they shouldn't get beat on the switch. They would get scored on from being so much smaller, but they shouldn't get beat. The Rockets have been getting straight-up beat on screens... letting the roll man get right to the basket, letting cutters get underneath them to the basket, etc. That should never happen no matter who you have on the floor.
