Glad to be back in the central time zone. On paper this may very well be the most one sided pitching match up I have ever seen. The Rangers trio collectively has more walks than strikeouts.
Look at those start times! Finally away from the west coast.... Oh yeah....and F the Arlington Rangers. Go Stros.
Why stop at top 6? In addition to what @Joe Joe pointed out, Chirinos has an OPS of .847 and Marisnick .919.
White has the 3rd highest OBP on the team. http://www.espn.com/mlb/team/stats/...ntype/2/table/batting/sort/onBasePct/dir/desc
I know we disagree. My DH hits the ball. My DH drives in runs. My DH doesn't plan for a walk as he lumbers his lardass up to the plate. If he was faster than cold molasses then the whole "get on base" strategy is a winner, ala Kemp, and he does do that. I have hope still, but I'm glad the Stros have other options waiting. I'm sure he'll get hot for a couple of three weeks and then go into hibernation mode, that's his M.O.
I'm curious how fat White can get before the super two deadline. White is the backup 1B. I would like to see Diaz, Reddick, or Brantley get more time at 1B so when it is time to dump the fat elf we are better protected against a Yuli injury. I don't want to see Reed up here again and Alvarez also needs more time at 1B before the Astros will be comfortable with him being the primary back up.
If he's not a run producer he's ****ing worthless. If the Stros didn't have other options he'd be tolerable. But they do have other options, or will.
White is hitting 0.357 against lefties while in hibernation mode this year and 0.278 for his career. His slugging is 28th in majors vs lefties since he joined MLB. He's hit lefties. If you want a guy that can hit and drive in runs, there aren't many better vs. a lefty. A lefty is on mound tonight. When a RHP is on mound, Astros have Kemp and other guys. Hinch has been a bit generous in giving White ABs against RHPs despite having other options. That is on Hinch. Overall all, Astros DH is still hitting, walking, and slugging, but is having the bad sequencing that entire team is going through (average RBIs).
Fatty McElf really has you upset. I agree.. if he isn't driving in runs he won't be on the roster long, but he has no options and as long as the Astros are winning it makes sense to wait until the super two deadline passes for Alvarez. Tucker isn't hitting. Taylor Jones isn't doing much. AJ Reed is hated even more than White. So for now we wait. I think the Astros should have a promotion where people try and guess White's weight every homestand.
