I am all for the WBC as long as the Astros are not in it...................this injury is so US, well I guess Dana was playing 3D chess knowing this could happen and now Correra can play SS and Parades to 3rd...............it all makes sense now

Hopefully this doesn't come back to bite us in the butt

I love watching the wbc but hate when Astros players are in it and get hurt.

    Spring Training stats:

    Astros games: 1-2, 5-6, 6-6, 4-1, 0-5, 4-9, 4-4, 2-5, 3-4, 3-3, 3-1, 4-2, 0-2 (in progress)

    37 runs scored through 13 games: 2.85 runs/game
    50 runs allowed through 13 games: 3.85 runs/game

Early indications are more hitting problems than pitching or defense.

I don’t put any stock in any ST stats other than velocity readings. The rosters are too inconsistent and the players are not playing enough to generate reliable data. So other seeing how hard guys are throwing and hitting there’s no much to take away. My #1 takeaway from ST so far is McCullers might actually be able to contribute (up to 95mph) and Imai looks good (up to 96.5 today).

A team might get shutout and then you look at the box score and they played A ball guys against big leaguers 2/3 of the game. Or a team might have gone off but then you read the opposing pitchers were all only throwing 1 pitch type.

I agree. However, I do you wonder what changes, if any, our batters have been making since changing hitting coaches. The only tangible change I can tell so far is taking more pitches.

true but wouldn’t it be nice if we had some surprise breakouts and big bats that go everyone excited ? Instead the offense looks lethargic . Sigh

I think for the next game every Astros batter should practice bunting. Just a thought

It’s a little disappointing to see that Cam Smith is not raking. If his job is truly under competition, he is not winning anything yet.

Disappointing but what do we really expect? He hit for like 3 weeks last year. He was woefully bad outside of that brief period, especially the last 2 months or so.

    It's still Spring Training, right?

Just checking because the whining is already at regular season levels.

But to be fair, it isn't like anyone else is threatening to take his job away from him

And I know small sample size yada yada yada...spring training yada yada yada

But it wouldn't hurt for one of our regulars to get a hit at some point

    3 weeks lol

    April/May .744 OPS
    June .848

    April/May/June combined he had a .785 OPS

He was terrible from July onward, but saying he had "3 good weeks" is laughable. In fact it's a much worse statement than his play after the ASB

I wasn’t all that serious with the 3 weeks (I think it’s clear that was an offhand estimate). However, upon inspection, it really wasn’t much more than 3 weeks. It was maybe 6. His OPS outside of may and june

    april- .679
    July- .563
    Aug- .447
Sept- .679 (after losing starting job)

he had a good 2 weeks in may and a good june. He was pretty horrible the other 20ish weeks of the season.

I’m all for Cam reclaiming RF but I would like to see him actually earn that spot this year.
