Cruz is waiting on the Astros. I think Astros have a plan told Cruz hold out just alittle longer we are trying to get something done first
I understand it is a business...but, if true, that move will be the biggest letdown of the off-season for me.
I doubt the Astros want to give Morton three seasons. Charlie Morton wasn't the same pitcher by the end of last season and I cannot see him lasting multiple years. I hope Charlie gets a lot of money and takes care of his family. According to the grunts at MMP, Morton's kindness and good nature is only equaled by Altuve....... so glad a good guy is getting his.
My milestones for alarm: When there are no good hitters left on the market. Currently here are the good hitters who are available: Grandal, Ramos, Harper, Machado, Moustakas, Cruz, Brantley, Murphy, Dozier, Lowrie, LeMahieu, Realmuto, Smoak, Castellanos, Cabrera, Choo, Santana, Encarnacion, and more And when there are no good pitchers left from the currently available group: Keuchel, Gonzalez, Lynn, Greinke, Kluber/Bauer, Stroman, Sanchez, Bumgarner, Leake, Fulmer, Duffy, Bundy, Cobb It is still WAY too early to panic or lambast Luhnow. Sure it sucks that CFM is gone but the value is not there like it was when they signed him for $14M/2yr.
Sad to see a good dude like Morton go but that's pro sports for ya. I trust Luhnow but at some point the list of FA/realistically available players starts to dwindle to a not so appealing place.
Probably more emotional than pragmatic, but I feel that 2/$30, especially considering that 3rd year option depending on his health, is a great deal for the Rays. I would have gladly matched. Good for Morton and his family, and good for the Rays.
