All series talk goes in here. Non series talk goes somewhere else. No PBP, that can be found from other sources if you need it. All games are broadcast on AT&T Sports SW unless otherwise noted. 9-25 Justin Verlander (R) vs. Luis Castillo (R) 8:40 MLBN (out-of-market only) 9-26 Cristian Javier (R) vs. George Kirby (R) 9:05 TBS (out-of-market only) 9-27 Framber Valdez (L) vs. Bryce Miller (R) 8:40 MLBN (out-of-market only)
Sadly I cant stay up for a 10pm start here in NY for West Coast games. Might be for the best this time.
Let's see if Gilbert, I mean Verlander, sets a good tone for the series. Mold will catch, so that part doesn't help.
Since Sept. 11 the Astros have hit .164 with runners in scoring position (20-for-122). If we can just change that, which is entirely possible, then we can turn this whole losing slump around. Let's do this!
Astros play well on the road and mariners are scuffling like us. It's a mid off with the Astros winning 2/3
So basically, they need some help? Michael Schwab | @michaelschwab13 Only two options where the Astros have full postseason control: -Sweep Mariners, win 1 game vs DBacks -Win 2 vs Mariners, sweep DBacks. Otherwise they'll need some Mariners losses. Astros paths to the postseason: Sweep Seattle and win 1 vs Arizona. Win two in Seattle and win two in Arizona. Seattle loses 1 vs TEX Win 1 in Seattle, sweep Arizona. SEA loses 2 vs TEX Lose all SEA games, sweep Arizona. Pray Seattle loses 3 times to TEX
Mariners scuffling against good teams. Astros scuffling against any team. and they've had our number this season. Best keep your expectations low.
I truly believe the Rangers would throw games against the Mariners if it meant keeping the Astros out of the playoffs. Houston absolutely must win 2/3 of this series.
Wouldn't the most Astros thing to do right now be sweeping the Mariners and then getting swept by the DBacks to lose out on the post season
'Stros up against it as the offense is struggling with RISP and now need wins in games started by Castillo, Kirby, and Miller this series and potentially Zac Gallen in game 162. You can bet both of these teams, while having much to play for themselves, would love to knock the Astros out of contention.
Baseball is a game of streaks. Have we seen the end of the bats struggles? There were some signs of life as they at least averaged 4 runs a game the last series and had opportunities. It's completely possible that jv, framber, and Javier have good games.
Its even possible we still win the division. What is so different this year is what other teams do will determine our fate. Usually, September is for coasting and resting key players. No such luxury this year.
