The Ingram signing reminds me of when you go to the store and see something on sale. The item shows it used to be $100 but now It’s $75, in reality it’s always been $75 lol. we were lead to believe Ingram was going for 15-18 mil but got him for $12.5. They’re trying to make it seem like a steal…in reality we paid what he’s worth or a bit more.
the fact that we had to pay Ingram like he is McGovern or risk another gaping hole on the o-line Is an indictment of how the front office has handled the o-line up to this point. Paying him was better than the alternative of not, but why are we in a position where we have to pay a mid guard plus-starter money?
Not really, pay top dollar for Linderbaum with the money Caserio spent on Ingram and possibly Mays. Then spend on a cheap vet like Salyer. I wanted a total remake of the ol. Instead it looks like they have 3/5ths of last years ol intact. SMH
Ingram has started at LG in the NFL before. So if they draft a rookie at RG, I thought they might move Ingram to the other side, assuming Brown is still starting.
Now Id like to see them go out and sign Charlie Kolar and Jamaree Salyer. Kolar would be a huge upgrade to the TE room and could dispel with the 6th OL formations that the Texans were using last season. Salyer (props to @raining threes for the find) would be a great flexible option that can play any spot other than C. For me, I am looking at Iheanachor and Pregnon from the draft as OL pieces moving forward. Brown at RT (Iheanachor) and Salyer at LG (Pregnon) would allow the rookies not to be thrust into the action but eased in. Y: Kolar (fa)/Sam Roush (#69) RT: Brown/Iheanachor (#28)/Fisher RG: Ingram/Salyer (fa) C: Andrews/Coogan (#140) LG: Pregnon (#38)/Salyer (fa) LT: Ersery/Fisher F: Schultz/Stover/Jordan
The Kubiak and Shannihan tree have had much more success in the NFL than the John Carrol College people Caserio is employing. So, yes, I would rather have Klint Kubiak running the offense than Nick Caley. The results bare that out.
People were convincing themselves that 4 D chess Nick Caserio was making all of these moves for a splash signing on the offensive line and that just does not fit with his modus operandi.
what's the point of clearing up all this cap space by restructuring contracts if you are not using it to improve the o-line?
Just a recap, so thus far our only upgrades to the O line are additions through subtraction? Have I missed anything?
Go grab this guy for our vacant guard spot! Packers released OL Elgton Jenkins. They were trying to shop him for a pick, but couldn’t find a taker. Jenkins enters his age-31 season off a disastrous experiment at center, but he’s got a long track record of high-quality play and should be one of the more highly-regarded free agents on the board.
Bringing back 3/5ths of the O line isn’t a problem imo. We already tried the full rebuild model throwing big money around and it backfired, now we’re paying for it. I saw improvements this past year and it takes multiple years for a O line to gain chemistry. Slowly churning the talent and letting guys gel seems like the right move here.
