You may make fun of it now, but it was not easy - having a $1,000 a mo student loan payment on top of rent and other living expenses when you are first starting out is really hard - and I am in professional services.
I'm not making fun: I'm wondering why any taxpayer would want to pay off your $100,000 loan for you, since you were able to do it yourself, at double speed. And I am wondering why AOC doesn't put that Gucci money toward paying off her own student loans; she calls for debt forgiveness instead. Nope: as a taxpayer, I am not footing the bill for her Gucci watch or your $100,000 loan, which you paid off so admirably.
Because I am the exception, not the norm. Most people aren't able to pay off that kind of debt. It makes college inaccessible to most people unless you are already rich or are pursuing certain careers. Even now, becoming a General Practitioner is no longer worth it when you consider the costs of college and medical school. Ultimately the cost of education is becoming an inadvertent way of keeping a class structure.
