That's great news. One step further into legalization, hopefully.

Obama administration to allow recreational mar1juana laws to stand

    http://www.latimes.com/nation/polit...r1juana-legalization-20130829,0,5074054.story

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration announced Thursday a limited pullback on federal enforcement of mar1juana, saying it will not interfere with new state laws that permit recreational use of mar1juana.

The Justice Department said it will not seek to veto new state laws in Colorado and Washington that legalize the recreational use of mar1juana, and it will not bring federal prosecutions against dispensaries or businesses that sell small amounts of mar1juana to adults.

A department official stressed, however, that mar1juana remains illegal under federal law, and that U.S. prosecutors will continue to aggressively enforce the law against those who sell mar1juana to minors and to criminal gangs that are involved in drug trafficking.

Atty. Gen. Eric Holder described the Obama administration’s middle-ground approach to mar1juana enforcement in a call to the governors of two states.

Holder also sent new guidance to U.S. attorneys telling them to focus their prosecutions on certain federal priorities. They include preventing drug sales to minors and stopping traffickers from moving mar1juana across state lines.

Under the new guidance, a mar1juana dispensary will not be targeted by federal prosecutors solely because of its size or its volume, an official said.

This change could have an immediate impact in California and the other states where medical mar1juana is legal under state law.

That a boy. Is that the Limbaugh talking point or the Levin talking point? I'm surprised you couldn't work in Saul Alinsky or statism.

Considering most skinhead and Aryan groups are just drug fronts nowadays, I'd say he's building a hell of alot bigger bridge than that. Meanwhile, feel free to keep whining about non-Victorian marriage or healthcare for homeless children.

Government is slow to come around but it usually does eventually. A hard truth for all those killed and jailed in the process though. It won't be long before we the people have a more direct influence on law; given enough biometric identification, people may be able to directly vote on issues bypassing or at least directly influencing elected representatives. Hey, that would reduce the influence of money too.

Why would those in power now have *any* interest in a true Democracy?

I'm all for the policy outcome, but the motives are purely political. It does follow Obama's pattern of lawlessness. Rather than propose legislation, he just tells Holder to ignore the law.

"Youth unemployment is through the roof, they don't like this NSA stuff. Need some red meat to get the poll numbers back up. Holder, whaddya got? Drug legalization? Sounds good, issue a press release."

Times are changing. It's like a tsunami. Thank you Washington and Colorado for really getting us started. I think full legalization will happens sooner than people think.

People like you are amazing. Almost like trained animals. Even when the other party does something you agree with, you can't even give them credit. Gotta dream something up about "motives", "timing" or whatever. You are programmed to react negatively to anything Obama does just because it's Obama.

If this was a Republican president, you wouldn't even consider motive.

Hard lefties do this also. Neither side has a monopoly.

A recent GOP example would be Rubio clucking about defunding Obamacare after his poll numbers took a nosedive when he pushed amnesty.

A pathetically transparent and political attempt to throw some red meat to his base to get his poll numbers up. Trying to ride Cruz/Paul's coattails.

Besides circumstantial and unrelated evidence and your biased opinion, what can you do to prove it is a political play? Washington and Colorado laws are implemented on the 1st on January and people from those states probably wanted to know what the federal opinion was on it. So do you want Obama to craft nationwide sweeping mar1juana legalization? I doubt he would be criticized for spendin time on that during the whole Syria fiasco...you would complain either way. And sorry it's not as easy as just propose legalization, he has other things to worry about.

I didn't claim proof, I made a conjecture based on falling poll numbers and privacy scandals coinciding with a sudden push for drug legalization.

Sure it is. "Hey you, staffer, I want to propose legislation decriminalizing mar1juana at the federal level. Writer something up I can bring to members of Congress and have it on my desk in a week".

LOOOOLLLLL ! How many pages of legislation do you think there is on weed? 1000s? And just abolish it all? No way that flies in congress so there is no point in going about it that poorly. That is stupid and weak politics.

Also what he did only affects 2 states and within these "pothead" states the recreational use hardly passed. Also, I think you are underestimating the youth if you think mar1juana laws are turning the approval ratings.
