Well they are both racist. They admit to being “team black” before anything else. They were even saying that black people shouldn’t protest, and stay safe, but that other races could keep protesting and risk their lives. That’s racism. No way around it. They said nothing about other races. So, really, this is you taking exception to them saying black people shouldn’t “risk their lives” by protesting on behalf of immigrants. That is, you think black people shouldn’t be expressing any opinions on how black people in general should behave for their own welfare, presumably because you think having any sort of extra fraternal connection to others based on race is “racist” and therefore deserving of scorn. It’s interesting how different people conceive of what “racism” means and what it doesn’t mean.

I have not seen 'team black" but if they said that then they're both racist. I know what Reeko is but Edward sounded rational. There's no excuse for that's disappointing. Sometimes race is a signifier of other shared experiences that make it more salient than mere skin color. If that feeling of kinship is based only on skin color and nothing else, and it also leads to exclusionary behavior again based only on skin color, then I think the racism charge is easier to understand. For example, hypothetically, if white people in some neighborhood are being targets of crime on the basis of their skin color, I wouldn’t call them racist for looking out for one another’s safety. It’s natural and fine to feel a bond with others when you are part of a group that is being targeted or discriminated against.

I’m just trying to pinpoint where our intuitions and views on this topic might diverge. It sounds like we agree that if a racial group was really experiencing discrimination in a society then it wouldn’t be racist for people in that group to feel a common bond and want to look out for each other to protect themselves against it.
It sounds like we agree that there is no group facing the kind of discrimination in this country that would excuse their racist behavior aimed at any other group. and there hasn’t been for quite some time.

Racist behavior aimed at other groups is never really excusable, so yes I’d agree with that. I just don’t see that happening in this thread with the posters you were labeling as racist. If I say “black people shouldn’t put themselves at further risk with law enforcement and should sit this one out”, how is that hurting non-black people in any way?
Can’t say “white people should sit this one out”. If safety is the concern, it should be for everyone not just people of a certain color.
