ronny, i think you are a little confused. first off, i live in brooklyn, i know what's up. think run-d.m.c., beastie boys, jay-z, not fresh prince of bel-air.
Suburban white kids will eat it up! Personally, I can't wait to have a team I can root for in my city! Knicks? I don't think so
Look at modern design elements from Brussels, ancient ones from Kyoto. Then look at the elements guys like Steve Jobs imported to the US. None of that flows with what the ghetto is about - because their form of peacocking is acting as hard as possible at all times. They're simply to poor to take a step back and appreciate the duality of life - that there is something more than "getting paper". That aesthetics and value are all about efficiency, simplicity, and the soul brimming from within. Unfortunately, not everyone is secure enough to pull that off. You have brands like Ed Hardy catering to white trash, and every other urban clothing brand perverting the time held values of class as we know it. In more educated circles, fashion is heading back towards the 50s. In developing nations where money is pouring in and middle-upper class kids finally have the financial backing for leisure time - they're not going for urban wear. They're going for crisp, fitted and plain colors. Jay Z went from Marcy to Madison, Notorious had it even worse - and that's the kind of crowd he wants to support Brooklyn. The mid level corporate professionals in Brooklyn will come and go when they have the time, but the fanaticism will only come from catering to the urban demo. Basically - I think we'll see a lot of ostentatious, superfluous "I'm so hard" type stuff coming from the Nets over the next couple of years.
