I think calling people names is ignorant, childish, and gets you no where. With that said, you're an idiot.
Partially because Battier played in Memphis (aka the NBA backwoods), and mostly because he hasn't had a true reputation until recently. If you look at the first/second team All-Defensive teams, there are guys whom are there off of reputation rather than being a lockdown defender (see: Bryant, Kobe). Plus, at the 3, he has to compete w/ the likes of Bruce Bowen, Ron Artest and Tayshaun Prince. That's a hard field to break through by anyone. In addition, last season Battier missed the All-Defensive team by one (1) vote (see below link) http://www.nba.com/news/alldefensive_070430.html If the Rockets have a big year, I see him making the All-Defensive team. There are many things that you can pick at Battier's game for, but defense? That's a stretch at best.
BATMAN is a perfect nickname for him. He doesn't have any "superpowers" like making the flashy dunks or impossible plays, but rather he gets the job done by using intellect and fundamental skills.
Oh I don't know man, did you see the China commercial of Shane Battier? He was all mean-lookin' like he wants to eat your babies and he even "dunked" Of course we all know its the real Shane Battier right?
Battier being called "Mr. Almost" is quite fitting and Scola should be called "The Awful Argentine". Perhaps Spanoulis can be called from now on "Floparonos Amerikanos". Yes let's think of more appropriate nicknames for Rockets players here. I mean Steve "The Franchise" Francis is just dying to get a nickname makeover. How about Stevie "The Buyout" Francis? Rafer Alston AKA "Skip 2 My Lou" just doesn't quite cut it anymore. What about something like Rafer "Brick 2 My Lou" Alston? Has a nice ring to it. Or what about John "He's Not My Real Dad Lucas" III?
this thread deserves ALMOST one star. Shane has been nothing but a hard player. He has a high BB IQ. Why???
His nickname with my friends is Fundamentals... That's what they say every time he takes a charge or gets a jumpball or commits a smart intentional foul. That one-on-one fastbreak with Ginobili today was a jumpball but Ginobili sold it well as usual so they called it a foul.
