Unions are not a black and white issue. Without them, or perhaps more correctly, without an employment context that includes the threat of unionisation, you can be sure that many employers would take advantage of their power to exploit their workers. OTOH, unions and more specifically union leadership can become corrupt and lose site of what is in the best interests of the employees. Ultimately a healthy company can offer more to the employees. The bigger the pie, the more pie there is to share. Some unions in the past have focused on getting a bigger percentage of the pie without consideration for how much pie there is to share and in the process have decreased the size of the pie (made their companies less competitive in the market) and ended up with less pie, even though they have a bigger percentage of what’s left. Back to your problem, I have a couple of issues you could search. WestJet is a discount airline in Canada that is currently dealing with the issue of unionisation. http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/ArticleNews/TPStory/LAC/20030806/RJETT/TPBusiness/Canadian MacDonald’s and Wal-Mart have also both dealt with the issue in Canada. You may have some luck searching these issues.
Hey! Where's mine?!?! You guys need to learn how to share! I'm stuck at school and broke as hell. No food for the meggo....
FEAR ME, ye who believes in distortions to the labor market, running entrepreneurs out of business and increasing costs for all consumers! What do unions members have to fear if they are competent at their job? Why is your stance on a monopoly on the labor market any different from your stance on a monopoly on cars, homes, or electronics? We must end their attempts to monopolize the labor market and inflict damage on consumer choices and affordability. Unions' days have come and gone. No longer is their influence needed to avoid Upton Sinclair-esque labor conditions. Now all they represent is waste and incompetence.
Behad, we are an expiring breed. I think unions will be gone by 2050, sad to say. Speaking of eradicating unions, I think Manny should ask for an anti-union speech from one of our resident labor hatas, T_J or bigtaxxx.
Whoa. Hard to believe it took me 3 minutes to make my last short post and I missed the post I had requested. That one should round our your paper/report Manny!
