Hello everyone! So... im from germany and soon im finaly gonna fly over to Houston and see my first ever rockets game I thought i ask you people, since im in Houston for like 10 days, what you think i should do/see in Houston and whatever you can think of would be interesting for a visiting guy I know this thread doesnt really belong in the dish so dont hate me for that^^
Can give better advice on what to do with some info. Coming with family or alone? More interested in the culture or the strippers? What time of year (I assume after Nov 1 if you're going to see a Rockets game).
San Jacinto Monument/Battleship Texas NASA Beer Can House The Orange Show / Smither Park See a Texans game if they're still playing go to the top of Transco Tower (or whatever its called nowadays) that's all I can think of off the top of my head..but I haven't lived in Houston since '91
-museum district -parks (Hermann, memorial, Eleanor Tinsley, or discovery green) -downtown/market square -St. Arnold's Brewery -restaurants: killens if you can do the wait, Hugo's, underbelly, uchi, food trucks, etc -Drive out to Kemah DFW's suggestions are great too
Someone mentioned Kemah, which I would highly recommend. Too cold for beach weather so Galveston wouldn't be much worth the side trip (although they do have some non-beach places to visit). If you want to exercise / stretch your legs, Memorial Park or Buffalo Bayou Park. Eye candy ain't bad, either.
Dynamo Game 8th Wonder Brewery Go watch the bats on Waugh Bridge Walk through Galleria Drive down Westhiemer Bar hop on Main St. in downtown
Best thing about Houston is the food and the art. Eat Vietnamese, mexican, and seafood. Some of the best food in America is in Houston. Go to the Menil and any number of other museums. If you want a taste of modern american beer, skip St. Arnold and go to 8th Wonder, much more innovative, exciting and what US craft beer is about. Definitely DONT fly all the way to Texas from Europe and go to Kemah, it's a dump
In houston you may need to rent a car or use Uber to get around depending. Our public transportation sucks and get ready for the traffic. Skip Kemah and Galvestion and as the other member suggest to just spend a few days here and drive or Austin and San Antonio. Dallas sucks so you are not missing out on anything. For sure you should try Texas style BBQ.
