Gonna back through the ABB back catalog and they had some absolutely great stuff. Most know "Ramblin' Man" and "Midnight Rider" and even "Jessica", but there are other songs, IMO, even better. So, what are your favorite songs by them - my top 5: 1) "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" (the live at Fillmore East version) 2) "Blue Sky" 3) "Little Martha" 4) "Whipping Post" 5) "Crazy Love"
If the kids were only going to listen to one song: Whipping Post It's got your polyrhythmic double drumming, wailing B3, Greg gutting out the vocal and the signature dual guitar attack. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/OJfF9scHuNA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> But my favorite single song is Revival off of Idlewild South. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/VKWXluFBNoY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It's obscene that this thread has only had FOUR posts in it! Geez, where is the love for the ABB outside of rocketsjudoka and Dubious?
It's not the first ABB thread. I remember telling someone that out of all the albums I've listened to in my 40+ years of rockin', the one album I have probably spun the most times was Live At The Fillmore ... and they went out and got it. Now you don't have to: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/rQ3d4w3vn8w" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Yeah it doesn't seem like the Allmans are getting much appreciation. One more thing I wanted to add about the Allman Brothers is they are probably the best music to listen to on a long car trip. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/G1jpQu6qR1E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gSDf2Usd8n4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Christ, what a waste. Only 24, what a waste.
I'm sure I'll get neg repped for this, but although I greatly respect the Allman Brothers as musicians, every time I hear one of their songs, I have visions of biker bars, trailer parks, and dirty ashtrays.
Never have been into it enough to know more than a few songs well, but I do like the songs that I know, have whipping post in the rotation, like Blue Sky and Melissa. Ramblin man isn't terrible, but not my favorite. I probably know more by them, but it's been a long while since I've heard anything else really. Thanks for the Fillmore link.

Revival and Midnight Rider are played quite a bit on classic rock radio and they are short songs (less than 4 minutes).
i prefer Willie Nelson's cover of "Midnight Rider" <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pP8xC73_LY8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Sad this thread didn't get more attention. I've been listening to this song a lot during the last few months of pandemic and shutdowns.
First show of theirs I saw was at the Woodlands in '94, the Where It All Begins tour. Unbelievable show (Dicky Betts did an acousic version of Stormy Monday on a 12 string while the band took a break, wish I could find a video of that), and I was hooked (I'd heard their standard radio stuff and Fillmore East). Everyone should give "An Evening With the Allman Bros: 2nd Set" a listen, it's from that tour. "Back Where It All Begins" and No One Left To Run With" are easily my 2 favorites after they reformed in the early 90's. Just an amazingly fun live band. Too many songs to mention: Ain't Wasting Time No More, Melissa, One Way Out...so many. Everyone should own: The Allman Brothers Band Idlewild South (Deluxe, lots of extra live stuff) Fillmore East (Deluxe, nothing extra that isn't on Eat a Peach, but it gives you a fuller concert) Eat a Peach (Deluxe, lots of extra live stuff) Brothers and Sisters An Evening With...1st Set An Evening With...2nd Set
